If the Angels relieved the Reds of the Moustakas contract do we think Castillo could be had without giving up Adell or Marsh or a top 5 prospect ? Seems to me that this is the kind of trade the Angels should pursue.  The Angels have money.  They don’t have prospects or cheap controllable major league players in excess.

lol they’re actually not going to land a top tier starter… wow. It’s truly impressive at this point how incompetent this organization is

Still options to trade, however spending the money would have been my preferred route.

I do understand the frustration, however. Syndergaard is a gamble, but Lorenzen, to me, feels like the typical 1 year deals we always do. Just hoping for the best with zero risk on the longterm payroll...... Groundhogs day

I will again point out that Moustakas is owed $38M over the next two years (assuming his option for 2024 isn't picked up).  No one seems to actually think he'll contribute much, if anything.  Castillo will probably cost roughly $20M over the next two years.  Do you really want to pay $58M PLUS some sort of prospect capital for 2 years of Castillo and a guy who most people think would at best be a utility guy/occasional pinch hitter?  That seems like a horrible use of resources.

Well you don’t give them much prospect capital, that’s the point.  And it’s still cheaper than signing Stroman.  The idea is that you dont give up young players.  I think it’s a viable strategy.

But you'd still give up SOMETHING in the trade--plus committing to $58M for 2 years of control for the guy you actually want.  Just seems insane.  Castillo isn't THAT good.
