Will Eppler be the Angels GM in 2021?

He will be. This pandemic season should be considered just a long spring training. Rendon, Adell, Canning and Bundy brought some sunshine to a cloudy season.

What I want and what I think will happen don't line up but I hope I'm wrong.   I think Arte wants to go in a different direction.   Unless Maddon and Stoney are huge Eppler fans I think he's gone.

I doubt it, but I hope he is. I just think Arte isn’t sensible enough to see the problems were more his than Eppler’s (though Eppler has definitely made his share of missteps).

Given the parameters placed on him, I think Eppler has done good in some areas and not so great in others.

My biggest reason, though, is I think the team has been put on a better long term path with him at the helm. I think another gm would sell out for short term gain and probably be about as successful as the 2014 playoffs.

No he won’t be. This year is beyond bad and Arte spent a ton of money. I just don’t see a way he stays.

I doubt it. If you want to keep him, you don't let him go into the season on an expiring contract and he's done nothing so far to make Arte feel better about him.

All I can say is if he doesn't come back then expect some big shakeups in terms of players.  For sure one of Marsh/Adell/Ohtani could be moved if there is a new GM.

Arte mental math. 

1) Recruiting Ohtani was a huge plus

2) Hiring Ausmus was a huge minus

Now Ohtani is shaky so it cancels 1

I think Eppler has done a solid job considering what he inherited.  If you do fire Eppler, who do you replace him with?  What sought after GM candidate would want to work with Arte when he's inclined to butt in at times?

I'd say if Billy pulls off some fireworks at the trade deadline, he'll be retained. If not, Arte will likely replace him. 

In this sense, fireworks would probably mean Barreto hits his celling immediately, Reyes comes in throwing bb's, and he somehow turns Goodwin, Simmons and Jordyn Adams into Mike Clevinger and Francisco Mejia.

It probably really depends on whether arte thinks Eppler has built the infrastructure for a winner in the near term.  It’s tough for me to think that Arte really thought the team would compete seriously this year with their inability to pull down pitching.  Obviously it’s gone as bad as it could.  But this is a weird year and who knows how it ends up during a regular full season.  In some ways I think it’s almost good that they’ve been as bad as they’ve been.  And hopefully it holds up.  A first overall pick would be incredible for the teams development system.  I have no idea whether he comes back or not.  I think it’s 50/50.  But I really do hope they get that 1st round pick.
