This is such a terrible take. Trump was given a pandemic team to deal with this very situation by Obama. Trump disbanded the pandemic response team Obama had set up after the Ebola outbreak. Do you even know what a pandemic response team does? They track down outbreaks like the coronavirus around the world and work to immediately contain it so it doesn't spread to the US. They don't rely on the WHO or anyone else. If they weren't disbanded then we would have saved thousands of lives.

Trump also cut staff by more than two-thirds at a key U.S. public health agency operating inside China, as part of a larger rollback of U.S.funded health and science experts on the ground there leading up to the coronavirus outbreak.

Before the closures, each office was staffed by a U.S. official. In addition, the U.S. Department of Agriculture(USDA) transferred out of China in 2018 the manager of an animal disease monitoring program.

Reuters first reported about changes to CDC staffing in China on Sunday. The news agency revealed that the Trump administration had eliminated the position of a U.S. trainer of Chinese field epidemiologists, who were deployed to the epicenter of outbreaks to help track, investigate and contain diseases.

Anyone who trusts the governments of China, Russia, or North Korea is an idiot and has no business being president of the US.

Also, Trump sold a lot of our PPE stock to China in February when we already had coronavirus cases. He sold more to Thailand, Spain, and Italy when we already had a shortage at HOME. In fact, members of his administration asked Thailand if they can send the PPE back.

He didn't invoke the DPA for production of ventilators and PPE for medical staff until April 2nd. The drastic shortage of ventilators and PPE has costs thousands of lives. And regular citizens are forced to walk around with cloth on their faces. The mass deaths and shutting down the economy is a direct result of gross incompetence by Trump.

Coronavirus: Las Vegas eyes reopening, masks on dealers: report

Casino executives in Las Vegas, NV., are deliberating certain ways to keep customers and employees safe once the gambling mecca eventually opens to guests, according to a report on Wednesday.

Some of the informal talks have discussed safety measures that include putting masks and gloves on dealers, in addition to re-opening facilities nearby so employees and possibly tourists could get tested for COVID-19.

Las Vegas would start by re-opening small businesses around the area so locals could start working again to alleviate economic hardships, according to Bloomberg.

 

The Las Vegas Strip is deserted on April 14, as casinos and other businesses are closed because of the coronavirus outbreak. 

 

The casinos would operate with as few as one-third of its rooms available for booking, with its entrances curbed and the temperatures of guests checked by noninvasive methods, the paper said.

Other deliberations include having gamblers sit at least a chair apart at blackjack tables, as social distancing concerns have the potential to linger for an indefinite period of time.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak had previously announced that all casinos, movie theaters, bars, restaurants, and gyms would close on March 18 to help fight the spread of the COVID-19.

The move was echoed by Caesars Entertainment CEO Tony Rodio who said in a press release the corporation would temporarily shut down its owned properties in North America to protect the well being of its employees and guests.

It's not clear when Las Vegas will reopen its casinos, although Sisolak has made it clear the health of the public remains his concern.

“This is not going to be a political decision for me, as for when to open,” he said, according to Bloomberg. “I don’t have an exact number. I’ll take a lot of advice from our medical folks and determine what’s in the best interest of keeping all Nevadans safe.”

Foreign affairs expert Gordon Chang told "Tucker Carlson Tonight" Wednesday that it is "probable" that the coronavirus pandemic originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China, not in one of the city's wet markets.

"There was an article in The Lancet, which is the authoritative British medical journal, I think it was posted January 24, which said about a third of the initial cases had no connection with the Wuhan market that everyone talked about," Chang said. "That means that there had to be another source for this, and when you look at Wuhan, obviously that Wuhan Institute of Virology, is at the top of the list of suspects."

"China reopened wet markets about a week ago," Chang added. "And that's a real indication that Beijing thought -- that Beijing knew -- that the wet markets were not the source of the coronavirus epidemic."

Fox News reported Wednesday that U.S. officials are increasingly confident that COVID-19 likely originated in a Wuhan laboratory not as a bioweapon, but as part of China's effort to demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the United States.

Multiple sources who have been briefed on the details of early actions by China's government and seen relevant materials spoke with Fox News, with one source saying Beijing may have engaged in the "costliest government coverup of all time."

Chang told host Tucker Carlson that the pandemic should lead America's leaders to "question their assumptions" about the Communist country.

"I think what this really says is that all of our policymakers, all of our analysts, our academics really need to go back and question their assumptions about what happened and in a general way their view of China," Chang said. "Because clearly we have been getting it wrong for a long time. And now this has had consequences which are just disastrous. We are going to bury many Americans because of this."

Honestly, the government should be subsidizing it. The cost of getting this up and running is far, far less than a continued hobbling of everything. 

Throwing a metric crap ton of money at this sort of stuff in late January/early February would have saved so many lives, so many jobs and so much heartache. Our leaders failed us, and horrendously so. An adequate response in a world like ours required a scale and coordination that only the federal government could supply at this time. They sat on their hands. They could have been out in front of this. They weren't.
