Machado to Padres....

One down...  I love what the Pads are doing, they may not be 100% ready yet, but they are putting the pieces in place for when the farm fills in the blanks.

Weird move. I guess Padres are angling to be really dangerous in a few years. Prospects will come up, with Machado holding down the infield as a veteran presence. Gonna be weird for a few years, though.

Also, sounds like a huge overpay. Biggest free agent contract in the history of American sports, according to the official MLB twitter feed.

Awesome for the Padres. He's a hell of a talent with a piss poor attitude. Hopefully he can be solid for that locker room. They've got so much young talent, I'm glad to see them making a move like ths.

Out of the two, I'd rather have Machado.  I know he wants to play SS, but he'd probably be a top 5 3B of all time if he continues this trajectory.  His top comparables are Beltre and Santo.

Surprising but good for the Padres.  Phillies likely finish the Harper deal now that Machado signed then hopefully a Trout extension.  Wonder what the reactions are over at PadresWin.com?

I love this for San Diego. That's the type of team who should have been all in on a player like Machado or Harper. They are gonna be filling the roster with a ton of high upside prospects from their farm over the next couple years. Only bummer is them throwing big money at Hosmer last offseason. In any case, they got a young and exciting team on the rise
