Actually you have ... you still owe me $20 from a bet ten years ago

No, actually you owe me...quit twisting it.

You said GMJr would have a better year than Juan Rivera before the 2009 season and, of course, Garroid sucked balls. You even said you lost a couple of years ago and I told you to buy Chuck someone a beer a fanfest if you ever went.

I don't owe you dick

I also notice so many times that Angel fans assume 2020 will be really good because a number of the best prospects look like they will "arrive" in 2020.

It seems almost childishly optimistic that these players will hit the big leagues and instantly be major producers that year.

It is actually more normal for it to take a couple more years for them to be high producers.

So this silly "be patient for one year because 2020 is the year" story is nonsense.

Are we all OK looking at three more years of "stay the course" waiting for the youth movement to arrive and actually become legitimately competitive?

It doesn't make sense!  Does Mike Trout want to do that?  Of course not.  Stupid question.

Yes it makes sense to stay committed to developing these players in the minors and yes let's be excited about their future.

But it is completely foolish to pass on high impact free agents this offseason, especially the ones that can help now AND are young enough to actually be part of the core of the team in 3 years.

You don't use free agemcy to build a team.  You use free agency to address obvious holes in your team specifically to help compete now.

The Angels have a decent core and can be a postseason team with the right added talent.  The money is there.

Ask yourself this question.  Would a 10 year deal with Pujols have been a disaster if they signed him at 27 and you got the 5 Cardinal years prior to him being an Angel?

He was too old for a 10 year deal.  Lesson learned.  Nobody is suggesting repeating that mistake.   Nobody.  But every time someone mentions free agency so many fans knee jerk to "no more Pujols deals."

Then why did you ask it?

But, apart from that, there is no way he gets traded this winter, despite what the "Angels' Torture Porn" enthusiasts are gnashing their teeth over.

LOL

i'll say it again: some people aren't happy unless they're miserable.

I remember before Trout signed his current extension how there was no way he'd sign an extension with the Angels.

Well there were different versions of that as well on here.  He wasn’t going to re-sign because he was disrespected and had to play left field when he came up.  He wasn’t going to re-sign because he only got a measly $1 million in salary his third year.  There was one other, but I don’t remember what it was.

There's a good chance the Angels talk extension with Trout this offseason, but I don't see it as being a hard deadline or the last opportunity.

If the Angels do have a new manager for 2019, I'm sure Trout will want to know what that's like.
Will the Angels rely heavily on the incoming kids in 2019? Will they do another stopgap year with one-year bounceback vets? Will they go all in? Some of that might matter to Trout, it might not, but this offseason will hint heavily at which direction the team will take going forward with prospects.

Lastly, if the Angels do feel like they need to blow everything up, 2020 is the time to do it - since presumably now is not an option.
Trout, Simmons, Parker, Skaggs, Shoemaker will all be in their walk year, Calhoun will be here if his option is picked up, and Skaggs and Bedrosian will be here for one additional year.

The Angels could make a fortune selling off those players that year and throw all of those prospects into the 2021+ wave to build around the new manager and Adell, Canning, Marsh, Jones, Thaiss, Ward, Knowles, Rengifo, Maitan, Suarez, Adams, Jackson, etc., should the Angels hold onto those guys. You could have a 2021/2022 team looking like the current Astros or Braves, stocked with young, cheap, talented players developed from within and a Top 10 farm to boot.
