It averages career WAR and WAR7, which is a player's best seven seasons. Some like it because it puts greater emphasis on peak level than pure career WAR, and thus is closer to how players are actually valued by most.

I think a few more highly productive seasons, maybe even an MVP or two and Trout is in the top-5.

7 active players on the list.  The only other who is on the list and not at the end of their career is Harper at 94th.

Mike Trout is 15th overall.  And he's 30 years old.

Didn’t read how they came up with their rankings but they put Jeter ahead of Pujols. Not sure if it’s a serious list

There are three players in major league history that have led or tied for the major league lead in WAR five years in a row.

Honus Wagner 1902-08 (7 years)

Willie Mays 1962-66 (5 years)

Mike Trout 2012-16 (5 years)

Wagner did it when there were 16 teams in the majors. Mays did it when there were 20. Trout did it when there were 30.

You know, all these amazing facts about Trout are wonderful and give a nice warm feeling to the heart, but if he can't run without pain from now on, this is all for naught.

By the way, has anyone heard any updates on the calf injury? Fully healed? I haven't seen any mention anywhere of it.

Let's get this party started again. Here's where Trout is in the fWAR rankings, as the season starts:

Trout is probably going to pass Charlie Gehringer and sneak into the top 40 this month, and a bunch of other guys before the ASB. He should finish the year somewhere in the 30-34 range.

Anthony Bass was a pitcher of Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters for one year in 2016. In the Japan Series, Anthony Bass pitched as a reliever and scored 3 wins.

A nice tidbit: 

Trout: 78.3 WAR in 1297 games

Griffey: 77.7 WAR in 2671 games

Meaning, Trout now has more WAR in less than half the games played as Griffey.

Trout has exactly the same # of plate appearances as Shoeless Joe Jackson... 5,697.

As of right now, he's up to 5th in majors with 1.2 fWAR.

Meanwhile, Trout's lost over 1 WAR from Fangraphs because they adjusted their defense formula from 2016 on. I guess their new formula likes his defense even less - he lost a bit in most seasons.

He's dropped to #43 with 77.1 (77.2 after today), back below Bill Dahlen and Ken Griffey.

Anyhow, if their new formula is accurate, Trout has no business playing centerfield. He's had negative Def in every year from 2016 on, except for 2018.
