What I always forget about Trout is that while he's the most consistent superstar in baseball, his seasons are made up of mini-streaks that alternate back and forth. He struggles for three or so games, striking out a ton, and then he goes on an absolute tear for three, four, five, etc. games, before struggling again.

When he's able to stay healthy for a full season, it culminates in some very sexy stats.

Trout has 999 runs scored, which was actually Barry Bonds' total through his age 30 season (Trout's current year). Trout will become the 45th player to have 1000+ runs scored through age 30. If he scores 101 more runs this year, he'll become the 21st player to score 1100 through age 30.

Trout has now passed Charlie Gehringer on the all-time fWAR list to reach #40. In the few couple weeks t, he's going to pass five players, and then have several guys in his sights to pass before the year's end (hopefully):

31. George Davis 84.6

32. Chipper Jones 84.6

33. Adrian Beltre 83.8

34. Joe DiMaggio 83.0

35. Roberto Clemente 80.6

36. Jeff Bagwell 80.2

37. Pete Rose 80.2

38. Brooks Robinson 80.2

39. Dan Brouthers 79.5

40. Mike Trout 78.9

41. Charlie Gehringer 78.6

42. Ken Griffey Jr 77.7

BR is slightly different - Trout is 42nd at 79.0, between Brooks Robinson (43, 78.5) and Joe Dimaggio (41, 79.2). Griffey's still ahead at #36 with 83.8.

More Troutporn, from baseballegg.com. They have a nifty way of ranking greatest players of all time by position; here's their list for center field:

https://baseballegg.com/all-time-player-rankings/baseballs-greatest-center-fielders-of-all-time/

Basically they add up Career WAR, Long Peak (best 7 seasons), Short Peak (best 3 seasons), and Prime (best five consecutive seasons, then adjusts in various ways. I think this works well because it weights peak level nicely against career, so we get:

  1. Willie Mays 546.0
  2. Mickey Mantle 425.8
  3. Ty Cobb 419.4
  4. Mike Trout 391.9
  5. Tris Speaker 383.9
  6. Ken Griffey Jr 357.7
  7. Joe DiMaggio 342.6

Now I personally think DiMaggio should edge out Griffey, but that's the formula. Interesting to see Trout above Speaker. Usually Speaker is considered the "worst of the best" - the top four center fielders of all time. But Trout's peak is just high enough, I guess.

Taking a very modest approach and assuming Trout only adds another 40 WAR and doesn't add any more best seasons, he's going to surpass Cobb and Mantle and finish around 450. It will be very, very difficult for him to catch Mays, though.

Trout is now 40th in fWAR, having passed three players this year: Bill Dahlen, Ken Griffey Jr, and now Charlie Gehringer. Up next:

35. Roberto Clemente 80.6

36. Jeff Bagwell 80.2

37. Pete Rose 80.2

38. Brooks Robinson 80.2

39. Dan Brothers 79.5

40. Mike Trout 79.1

41. Charlie Gehringer 78.6

Meaning, he could pass five more players before the All-Star break. Joe DiMaggio would be up next (83.0).
