I see it more like, every year someone is actually as good as Trout, but it is usually a different guy each year - and Trout is always there. That's what makes him so special.

That said, he hasn't led the majors in WAR since 2019 (or since 2016 according to BR), and he didn't lead in 2017-18. So while he was the clear best player from 2012-16, and we can say through 2019 overall, we're now three years out from his last year of leading the league, so he's got a title to reclaim.
