haven't heard it announced officially that he's retiring but joe mauer caught for the last time yesterday. came in for one pitch and then was pulled.

adam jones basically said farewell to everyone in baltimore when he was pulled from the game.

adrian beltre may have played his final game yesterday, too.

Damn. Mauer, Jones, Wright, VMart and Beltre.

I liked Mauer, Jones, Wright and VMart.

That is a perfect fit for him. No expectations, no major established star. Small ball at its finest.

Not sure how many front offices are out there just waiting to hire  "Old School" managers these days. My guess is if Scioscia does work in MLB again, it will be for MLB. Something in Joe Torre's office.

I don’t think of Scioscia being old school but more of a pioneer of new school managing.

Only way he manages again is for a team looking for stability during a rebuild. Someone to keep the clubhouse together while losing 100 games, and replaced when the talent level goes up. Just like Gardenhire is doing right now in Detroit.

Long-shot A's winning World Series represents worst-case scenario for MGM sportsbooks

The Boston Red Sox are the World Series favorites, followed closely by the defending champion Houston Astros, but another American League squad is the biggest concern for one Las Vegas sportsbook as baseball's postseason begins.

The long-shot Oakland Athletics winning the World Series would be a costly, worst-case scenario for MGM sportsbooks. The A's were as high as 250-1 to win the World Series in June, and bettors pounced.

"They're the worst, by far," Jay Rood, MGM vice president of race and sports, said of the A's, who take on the New York Yankees in the AL wild-card game Tuesday in New York. "We have just a slew of $5 and $10 tickets at anywhere between 100-1 and 250-1 [on the A's]."

Included in the MGM's slew of World Series bets on the A's are a $1,000 bet at 250-1 and a $1,000 at 125-1, which were each placed in June and would net $250,000 and $125,000, respectively. The Athletics' odds had shortened to as low as 6-1 at MGM ahead of the playoffs.

Anyone have anyone theyre pulling for? Oakland would be kind of cool as the long shot. Atlanta as well.

I still havent gotten to the point where i dislike houston yet, either.

Cubs of course...but if they are out then it turns into whoever is playing the Dodgers and Red Sox. Love October baseball.. and don't need a favorite to be in it, to watch every game.

Another reason to root for the A's.

I only really root for teams to lose.

I want the Dodgers to lose more than anybody because it pleasures me to see them choke year after year and see their fans so disheartened.

After that, I go Yankees because it pleasures me to see my friend's favorite team lose.

Then the Red Sox cause they are bitches.

Then the Astros.
