Gameday Thread: Scioscia has lost his mind Vol 897 - Angels vs. Nats 8/15

After hitting .311/.383/.482 with 12 HR and 19 SB in AAA, Cowart has hit .300/.364/.480 with 1 HR, 4 2B, 1 3B and 3 SB in 18 games with the big league club, all the while playing solid defense at 2B and 3B.

What gives, Sosh?

The fat man has an erection for lite-hitting vets for some reason.

Its a 2B platoon...Cowart faces righties, Pennington faces lefties....even though Cowart hit 352 .442 OBP 931 OPS against lefties this year in SLC.  Does it make sense?  No, but this is a guy that desperately tried to make Aybar a lead-off hitter for years...this is a guy who platooned Morales and Calhoun even though they hit better from the opposite side of their platoon.

This is not meant to defend Scioscia, but couldn't it easily be explained that Cowart is much more versatile and a better bench option based on the fact that he can be a defensive replacement, he can pinch hit from both sides of the plate and he can be a pinch runner?  Granted he is better than Pennington, but Pennington has played pretty well lately.  He is batting over 300 the last month.

Skaggs hitting 8th, how often has a Halos pitcher batted 8th?   Granted, MLB teams are increasingly having their pitcher bat 8th.

Heck, Shohei Otani could likely bat cleanup for this team, and it'd be an improvement.

Skaggs is hitting 8th because he's probably the 8th best hitter in your average Scioscia lineup.

Mike Trout is our best option off the bench.

Albert has a career ops at nats park of 1.447 with 9 hrs and 16 rbi in 50 at bats.  He also hit is 500th hr there.

These are not my reasons.  They are likely the reasons of MS.

Maybe there is less gravity in DC and thus Albert isn't as fat and the ball goes a little further?
