  1. Dodgers. Southern Cal. Familiarity with an area he purportedly loves. And they will pay him whatever he wants.
  2. I always look forward to you guys. I sat by my computer last night, waiting for the podcast to be posted. You're funny, insightful, and a bit irreverent, which is a good thing.
  3. Moniak just came off an 18=game hitting streak and has been above .300 all season. He got a hit today. Is that consistent?
  4. The Nutwood near Cal State Fullerton does not intersect Chapman. They run parallel. I know this, because I am a professor there. (There's also a really yummy Which-Wich right off Nutwood.)
  5. If not for this kid. we would be sellers right now. Last night's miscue was an aberration. It followed a couple of brilliant plays in the outfield earlier in the game. And then he immediately provided the game-winning RBI. I can readily point to a few doofus plays by Trout over the years that didn't exactly highlight his overall defensive abilities.
  6. You all managed to rave about a couple of great defensive plays he made earlier in the game, and then you turn into Satan when he loses a ball (probably) in the lights. And maybe a little too dopey aggressive on the base paths, but he wouldn't have been there and we would not have won save for his clutch double. And the guy has a 15 game hitting streak and has won us how many games with his bat?
  7. Understanding that when a team is going badly, my hanging in there and spotting glimmers of hope for the team allows for some semblance of enthusiasm and captures a reason for me to watch the games and continue to follow the club. I'm not so naive as to think we're on our way to The Promised Land because I'm happy about a 3-game sweep. I know better than that. We could lose the next three. I have followed the Angels since 1961. I've lived and died with them. I had season seats from 1974-2009. I was there for the Henderson home run (worst day of my life so far); but I was also there for the moment we won the Pennant (remember Epstein clutching the pop fly). I also saw Salmon's big 8th inning home run in game 2 of the 2002 WS. Watching the games can be torture (from nerves and ultimate disappointment), but it is what a fan does when he loves baseball and has committed emotionally to a particular team. Baseball is life. You use the lemons to make lemonade. If I stayed so bitter and depressed and couldn't find a way to be positive (even every once in a while), I would find a new passion.
  8. Moniak is 25!. He has hit over .300 this season since he's been up here. Of his 30-some RBIS, many of them have tied games or put us ahead. Without him, we would be down and out of the race already. He has 11 homers, despite limited playing time. Does he still have to make adjustments? Of course. All players do. (a big hit off Valdez and another clutch hit last night--both from the left side) He's also an excellent defensive player. He should start in center almost every game. When Trout returns, we will have more returns on this thing. But, My God! Why would you want to put any sort of a clamp on this guy, especially considering the alternatives right now?
  9. I must admit that I was angry that Nevin took his closer out of his role, and the demons took over; I believe he made a mistake. I also criticized him for pinch running Velasquez, who was the only guy that could have scored on the Neto hit. That worked. This is why Nevin, given all the injuries and media criticism and enormous (Ohtani trade) pressure, has baffled me that he has not succumbed to a stroke. Nevin is a seasoned, smart baseball guy with a reputation for standing up for others. If he goes down this season, it won't be for the lack of trying and displays of enormous courage.
  10. Canning is problematic. But I totally agree with keeping Moniak, Adell, And Thais. You would add Neto and O'Hoppe to this list, right?
  11. Mickey Moniak, in contrast to the other outfielders on this team, has contributed numerous CLUTCH hits in late innings. His WAR, the highest of any Angel, is already 1.9. He is batting .337, with a slugging percentage of .707, and an OBS of 1078, the highest for Los Angeles, except for Escobar, who has played only two games. Will this continue? Of course, not; however, the 25-year-old deserves a regular starting spot, even against lefties. At a given point, much further down the road, you can make an assessment of the kid's propensity to be a star in this league. In the meantime, the Angels seem to have a better chance of winning if he is a regular in the lineup, and not part of a platoon that messes with his timing and consistency. . .
  12. Does he maker a mistake or two? Maybe, but that is subjective and often a matter of philosophy. On thing for certain is that his players love him, and he loves his players. And he's one tough dude.
