This thread should be stickied forever. It's a perfect exemplification of the trade process and how fans react to them.

We will ALWAYS underestimate how much a player we want is worth in a trade. Oftentimes significantly.

So this trade unfolds and we all lose our minds because we overvalue what we have and undervalue what we want. We want to trade pieces we essentially don't want on the roster. Why would another team give up anything of value for pieces the other team doesn't like or want (Tony Reagins, aside)?

If we get anything of value in a trade, we're going to give up players we don't want to trade, because those are the guys other teams will want.

As fans I think it’s natural to overreact to trades and feel fleeced when top rated prospects get traded. Just a couple of years ago it was Adell who was untouchable and so far he doesn’t appear to be that “untouchable” guy. I think these things teach us that prospects tend to be overvalued and we shouldn’t be so reluctant to trade them if we can win now by doing so.

I feel like we are on the same page with this one

I'm in the minority but I like this deal. Simmons is not just a good SS, he is the best SS in mlb of a 25 year span. This guy will save so many runs, he will become a fan favorite very quickly. It sucks trading pitching prospects but we have seen lots of those flame out. Heaney is the real deal and next year we'd need to get a SS anyway. I like it!

I had a good take until I said Heaney is the real deal lol

I reacted badly to the trade and I own it.  I hated to give up a young pitcher because we had done such a bad job of developing pitching....hopefully we are in a better place for that now.....I also hate that Simmons didn't get to the playoffs while with the Angels....the trade was good but we still didn't have a good enough team to take advantage of a terrific talent in Simmons and make the playoffs....

I am not going to search through this thread for my posts but I am pretty sure I was in favor of the trade and probably made some sarcastic comment to posters that thought Newcomb was the 2nd coming of Cy Young.
