Never met him, but he seems like a great guy!

Outside of Fan Fest settings, a cool thing I remember is we did a b-day dealio at Commerce Casino for Vic many years ago and it was kind of an open invite with Vic's buddies. Mike showed up and watched us play, but I recognized him and he asked if he could play. Had a fun night with him for a bit before we broke the table (jargon for split from it....the rake was ridiculous for a private table).

Several of us got together at Throwbacks (I miss that place) in 2009 to watch game 3 against the blosox. It was the game where Vladdy drive in the winning run. I think it was Mike who had brought along a bottle of champagne to celebrate the sweep. He popped the cork and sprayed it all over. It was a lot of fun. He even hit me in the eye a bit.

Of course, anyone at fanfest a couple of years ago will never forget Mike asking Arte a question (while wearing "the hat") and Arte looked at him and said "I used to shoot guys in that hat in Vietnam." Brought down the house.

Godspeed, buddy. Positive attitude is half the battle.

Who was that guy a few years back that got so bent up about his hat? I miss that thread.

Anyway, if he doesn't have internet access, would someone please transcribe these messages in a card for him? Otherwise we are only writing to make ourselves feel better.

Yes, I was very drunk that night.  And I met him a few weeks after that night, at summer fanfest.  And we talked, I apologized, and it's been water under the bridge.

Anyways, anyone have the James Bond Collection on DVD?  And a portable DVD player/screen?  Seems to be the only movies he liked, and that will keep him occupied.

((((Percy)))) we are all pulling for you! Cancer has touched everybody in some way. I have lost a brother and my beautiful mother to this devil. But i have beat the same cancer that took them and my younger brother has beat cancer as well. I mention this to show that a DX is not a death sentence. This is beatable and the medical community is doing amazing work in the treatment and cure of cancers. Feel free to PM if you'd like. Looking forward to seeing your hat and picking you out of the crowd.

Hang tough Percy!  I and my friends out here in the MT will be praying for you.

I hate cancer.

Three of my cousins, an aunt, and two close friends have died of it.

Prayers and good thoughts for Percy and his family. The only bright spot is that Stage 3 is better than Stage 4. There are several new, and very promising, drugs to combat this. I hope he has good doctors and good insurance.

I got Mike an interview with my company a few years ago. We were looking for an Accounts Receivable guy. He told me his experience was in Accounts Payable. WTF do I know about it? I tell him "whatever dude... accounting. Come in for an interview." Our Finance guy and CEO still talk about how awesome Mike was in the interview. "I don't know shit about Accounts Receivable. I told Adam I was an A/P guy."

Very sad news.  I love Mike and his attitude.  The Angels FO asked where he was last spring in Tempe.  Remember his comment to Arte?

Arte saw his hat ad said, "When I was in Vietnam we shot at people wearing hats like that"

Mike:  "Arte, I hope you're not carrying tonight."

Funny and a really nice guy.

Just as a personal aside, and when Mike reads this he may start to feel uncomfortable, but at this point, I don't care.  I have seen the way that Mike speaks of this online community.  He absolutely beams when the name Angelswin comes up.  This place, and the people that inhabit it, mean the world to him.  Every time we talk, and I mean every time we talk, the subject of Angelswin comes up.  Mike is a diehard Angels fan, as I am, and Mike was the one that introduced me to this website and the community, and I thank him for it.

Thank you, everyone, for your support of Mike throughout the years.  Yes, we all know that Mike is a bit of an odd-bird, but one who is, despite any rough exterior he may have, one of the kindest, gentlest most giving people that I have ever known in my life and someone who I am proud to have been able to call a true friend throughout the years.

Thank you all, Angelswin.  Thank you all once again for bringing joy into Mike's life, and by proxy, into my own.

I'm sorry to have missed this until now.

Mike and I have talked a lot on here and via texting and phone calls.

I'll see if his cell phone can be reached.

If not, please send him my best wishes and I'll say prayers for him.

Update: I just sent a text to him.

Mike and I played on the same softball team many, many years ago. We had lost touch after the team split up. Then, at the first annual AngelsWin FanFest softball game, I looked across the field and thought, damn that guy looks familiar. Walked up to him and said, Holy Crap! It was great seeing him again. I went to Fan Fest hoping to see if one of these screen names was actually someone I knew. Looks like there was. Mike is a great dude. My thoughts are with you Mike. Get well soon buddy!

I just spoke to Mike on the phone. He has been released from the hospital and will be starting chemo and radiation.  He will be coming by this thread tomorrow if at all possible to post himself, but I wanted to inform you all of the latest and that he is no longer in the hospital...
