Angels; 2nd Best Record in Baseball

For as much love as the A's get, the Angels have actually been 1.5 games better since April 18.

Basically, the A's built a 4 game lead over the Angels in the first two+ weeks of the season, but in the subsequent three months the Angels have been the better team.

Amazing the difference a couple months can make. On May 12, the Angels were just 1 game above .500, the bullpen was a mess, and it looked like 2013 all over again.

You missed the part about how many posters here were ready to trade most of the players, and fire the coaching staff and Dipoto.  It was a great demonstration of fan impatience to say the least.

18 games over and that's with the pen earlier this year blowing at least 7-8 games in which the team had a lead after 7

There seemed to be more of a sense of urgency this year. They acted quickly on fixing issues with this roster. Pen is now looking like a strength after being the main weakness just a month ago

This team is better than 2002. Whether or not we will be hot at the right time or not I don't know. But go position by position and this team has the better players, except in the bullpen.

Well speaking as the 2002 team won the WS, I don't know how that can be said quite yet.

Better than 02? Not sure about that. The offense, yes, but the starting pitching in the regular season in 02 is better than what we have now. 4 out of the 6 starters used have an ERA above 4.15 while in 02 4 of the main starters had ERA's in the 3's.

Best Angels team since 2008 & 2009. Everyone is contributing and it's looking like they finally put all the pieces into place. August and September should be fun.

August and September could also be a grind. With the Cleveland makeup scheduled for September 8, the Angels will have exactly one off day from August 15 to the end of the season. We could use another starter to take some pressure off the rotation.

I agree

Hope these guys have enough in the tank. It will be a grind

C'mon that was justified after what happened the past few years. Hindsight is 20-20

Just imagine how good this pitching staff would be if we had only kept Jeff Mathis.

Credit goes to the players. The role of a manager is incredibly overrated. Generally speaking their ability to mess things up (see Valentine, Bobby and 2012 Red Sox and Washington, Ron and any Rangers WS appearance) is far stronger than their ability to magically create wins.

That said, massive kudos to Scioscia for appearingly changing some of his past thinking and being adaptive to work with new data and evidence.

While that is true, the team starting ERA in 2002 was still 4.00.  The Angels current team starting ERA is 3.76.

Agree, the games we blew really hurt us early and can you imagine what our record could be with pen we have now? Just 3-4 of those games would put us up front.

I'm enjoying the changes that have been made and we are playing really good ball right now. The adjustments in the pen have been really beneficial.

Let's see if we can keep this going in the right direction.
