  1. Nice. My son is going to a Cooperstown tournament this year for travel ball. We're going to a Mets game and then going to Boston to watch the Red Sox and Yankees play at Fenway. Then going to Virginia to visit family and and going to go to an Orioles game. Will probably go to a couple Padres games as well.
  2. My son definitely loves baseball, but he's as sick of the Angels as I am. We are traveling a lot this year and plan to go to games at other ballparks. I'm not putting any more money into the team until Arte sells or they put a winning product on the field.
  3. If they would have been more transparent I wouldn't care, but the way they've played this offseason has eliminated any desire I have to attend a game. Typically I'm a 15-20 game a year person (with my wife and son). We won't be attending any games this year... Unless they make the playoffs by some miracle.
  4. There's an opt out after this season. That would have been a bad move
  5. The only explanation I could think of that would sort of make sense is that relievers fetch a good return at the trade deadline. Maybe he signed them hoping to also sign Snell/Montgomery and JD, but figured if those signings didn't happen for whatever reason they would have some tradable assets at the deadline to build up the farm.
  6. Yeah, but the Angels have to give up a draft pick. 2024 is NOT the year for Angels to go all in. They most likely won't contend. This is a building year. Giving up a draft pick in a year they most likely won't contend only for him to opt out for 2025 where they might actually be able to contend is a really bad move. I'm for signing Snell, but really hope it's for at 3 years no opt outs. It gives them an ace for a few years and gives something to build on next offseason. Snell isn't "the piece" because the Angels need more than one "piece". They need to see what they have this year with Neto, O'Hoppe, Schanuel, Moniak, and Adell. Then they need to adjust accordingly next offseason. Adding Snell for a few years makes sense because it's building towards something. Giving an opt out after one year is essentially going all in on this year. Which makes zero sense.
  7. Personally I'm over the rebuild. They had so many chances to rebuild or "soft rebuild" the last few years, but didn't take them. Last season was the worst. They had a chance to significantly change the future and once again went for it when the writing was on the wall. At this point, just spend the money or the sell the team. If they sign Snell or Montgomery I may come to a few games this year to watch them pitch. Otherwise, it will be the first season since I was born that I didn't attend an Angels game. If Arte wants to always commit to competing then he needs to put his money where his mouth is.
  8. And wouldn't have a job if their performance was a bad as Rendons. And those are the same people spending their hard earned money to watch their Angels team struggle largely in part because of the guy who is taking up 20% of the payroll while producing 0% on the field.
  9. I wish nothing but the absolute worst for him for the remainder of his career
  10. Yeah I thought that if he reached 45 days on the roster that would trigger it, but I think I read it wrong. I believe it has to exceed 45 days. When I counted it recently, of he stays in the roster through the end of the season he'll be at exactly 45 days.
  11. Wondering if they are going to send him down before he reaches the rookie thresholds
  12. This is literally the opposite of what successful teams like the Astros and Rays preach. They want guys with discipline. They want guys who will make the pitcher throw more pitches. I've watched the Astros essentially waste the ABs of the first 2 batters just so they can work the count and the team can see what they are up against that day. On the other hand, the Angels will be aggressive and be out of an inning in 5-10 pitches and never forcing the pitcher to use many of his secondary pitches which means that the rest of the team doesn't get to see those pitches. Blows my mind that as a hitting coach you can literally look around the league at the most successful offenses and see that they stress plate discipline and then turn around and tell your guys to do the opposite.
  13. I put that he stays, but it's mostly wishful thinking. I think it's one of 2 things: 1) Ohtani is disappointed in the Angels and unhappy with the organization. Despite the fact he said he wants to win with the Angels, he mostly just didn't want to be traded while having one of, if not the, greatest season of all time during a contract year. As a result he will go elsewhere, but not necessarily the most money. He will go to an organization that will give him the same treatment the Angels did, but one that is better at up to compete in the next 5+years. I also don't think he'll sign as big of a deal as everyone thinks. I truly believe Ohtani knows well enough that getting paid $50-60M a year puts a major hamstring on a team. I think he figures out where he wants to play and takes $30-40M a year. 2) He wants to bring a WS to the Angels. He cares deeply about his legacy. It's why he opted to come to MLB early on a rookie deal instead of waiting and getting more money. At the rate he's going, he is making a case for the GOAT. Any player can go to a perennial contender like the dodgers and Astros and have a shot at the WS, but everyone knows that those teams had a shot even without them. Ohtani's legacy would receive a greater boost by bringing a team like the Angels, one everyone counts out, deep into the playoffs. The bat flip against the Yankees gave off that energy. That, screw you guys we'll show you, type of energy. I'm probably wrong, but those are the 2 scenarios I see.
  14. It helps when you speak the same language as your teammates. Really hard to be a leader when you have to talk through someone else
  15. They need to sign Ohtani, but it's not likely. The best path forward was to trade Ohtani, Esteves, Moore, and anyone else of value nearing the end of their deals. If Ohtani really wanted to sign long-term with the Angels, a good GM would be able to convince him the best way to win with this team long term would be to trade him. Instead Perry let Shohei convince him to trade what little talent they had in the farm for a shot in the dark. It's completely backfired as expected. If they sign Ohtani then I'll be happy with everything they did. If they don't, Perry needs to be fired because he will have set back this franchise even further. The only reason the Angels should have been buyers at the deadline is if he is 100% sure Ohtani will sign in the offseason. If he did it just in hopes of increasing Angels chance to sign Ohtani and to give the fans the "excitement" of trying to go for it while Ohtani is still here, then he's an idiot and not fit to be a GM.
  16. All I have to say is: Giants, Astros, Rangers, Rays, Reds, Mets, Phillies. That is the schedule for August. With the exception of the Mets, every single one of those teams is better than the Angels. They will need to go something like 15-6 to get back in the wildcard race. The chance of that happening is essentially zero.
  17. Not looking good. Nothing to do, but to be hopeful at this point. However, it's looking like they blew their chance to think about the future for once. Instead of getting at least 2 top prospects they got rid of one in addition to several of their own top guys. If they don't re sign Ohtani, the franchise will be set back years. Doesn't mean they won't be able to contend. They have some good young talent still. But having that good young talent, and still having 3+ top ranked guys in their system would potentially mean the start of a large window of contention. Instead, the outlook is pretty similar to what it's been for the last 8+years. Enough talent to look decent when healthy, but not enough depth in the farm (due to a weak farm) to sustain a winning roster throughout the season.
  18. Yeah I'm just bitter right now. Overall I think he did a good job. Angels are gonna have to win like 6 in a row to stay in this thing.
  19. Escobar should have never been traded for. He's worse than replacement level and has no business on an MLB team.
  20. Yeah I guess it would come down to how much they like them. To me it's not about the money. SP isn't easy to come by even if money is no object. On the open market you aren't guaranteed anything. Next FA class has some decent pitchers hitting the market, but not a ton. Most are dependent on opt outs. And like always, there will be tons of competition. And as we all know, players often choose where to play for other reasons than just money. So guaranteeing a mid rotation starter for the next 2 or 3 seasons is a big deal. Also, keep in mind that Canning and Sandoval were both Eppler guys.
  21. The Mets also want to compete next year though. I could see them trading for a controllable pitcher plus protect(s). If the Angels included Canning or Sandoval, they wouldn't need to include a top 100 type prospect and then it immediately fills a need at SP for the next 2-3 years for the Mets. Not sure that's what they are looking for, but it makes sense to me.
