that's a great benefit to have. iirc, mom's portion of the ambulance cost is $150, which I'll happily pay over having to wait. I'll have to pull out the bill and see exactly how much the total charge for that scenic 3.2 mile ride came out to

My guess it's between $800-$1,000

Here's some interesting info.  Her medical costs from one of her doctors (she has several) for the first 8 months of 2016 is $119,030.41

That's basically a Cam Bedrosian and Jett Bandy.

one of the guys who has taught us CPR at my school said always tell them it's your heart. heart patients go almostly immediately into an exam room, well ahead of the crowd.

you can also go to an urgent care center if you have a good one close by. less crowded and far lower wait time.

It was President Barack Obama himself, fittingly enough, who provided the best metaphor for the fate of his signature health-care reform when he compared it to a smartphone catching fire and getting pulled from the market.

He didn’t really mean it that way, but that’s how it came out. In a speech last week in Miami, Obama said the failing Affordable Care Act, like most smartphones, only needed a few fixes to be successful.

“When one of these companies comes out with a new smartphone and it had a few bugs, what do they do? They fix it,” Obama said. “They upgrade — unless it catches fire, and they just—then they pull it off the market. But you don’t go back to using a rotary phone.”

Just days later, when the administration announced that health-insurance premiums under Obamacare will rise an average 25% next year in the benchmark “Silver” plan, the moment came when Obamacare caught fire and became a product ready to be yanked from the market.

Not only are premiums due to skyrocket — in Arizona the increase will be more than 100% — deductibles will be rising to levels that make a mockery of “affordable” and even rob the word “insurance” of much of its meaning.

The so-called Bronze plans will carry deductibles for families of more than $12,000 on average, in addition to premiums. Why wouldn’t a healthy young person forgo that kind of “insurance” and happily pay the $700 or so fine for not signing up for a health plan? (Another Democratic suggestion to increase the penalty is not likely to endear the party to much-sought after younger voters.)

I've mentioned this before...Ronald Reagan @ UCLA is awesome. Zero wait, new building and valet. Every time.

of course it's awesome, but I don't think mom would have enjoyed the 55-mile journey

our hospital was like that before Obamacare, especially on weekdays. the time we went to the ER that I described occurred on a Tuesday @ 2:00 pm. yes, they have valet parking, too.

it's undergoing a $99.6 million expansion that will hopefully ease some of the problem.

Yeah, I tried that. After hearing the same thing, I told the charge nurse I was having shortness of breathe and a little stiffness in my chest. Boom, I'm on my way to the back, past all those other suckers, yeah! Once they figured out my heart wasn't the problem, they slammed me back in that waiting room so fast, and not in a kindly manner. I'm pretty sure I spent an extra hour or two in the cooler due to my attempt to mislead. So, don't do that.

Mark Cuban: Obamacare is the world's biggest start-up, and Trump has no clue how it works

Quote

He admits the increases in premiums are a concern for people in some states, but said it is mainly because of insurance companies that entered the market and underpriced the first several years, missing certain projections.

Good news everyone.  Those expensive insurance plans are because it's underpriced.  So this is just a standard market correction.

That is always very sad news.

Why are they coming to the US? What could they possibly get here they couldn't there?

I believe the U.S. healthcare system is better than Canada's, but to be fair, Michael Buble doesn't represent the average person seeking treatment for their family.

An appointment with a doctor.

Waiting times to see a primary physician, then a referral to a specialist would be the death of the child if it has an aggressive cancer.

This is the real world of socialized medicine, from the time of seeing a general practitioners  (which has its own waiting period) to a specialist can be 18 weeks. An MRI/CT scan (basic tests for cancer detection) up to another 10 weeks. Treatment can be another 9 week delay. Do the math, that is a death sentence for any aggressive cancer patient.

That is why Canadians come to the US for life threatening illness diagnosis and treatment.
