After June 7th of the 1972 season, the Philadelphia Phillies were 18-63 when Steve Carlton didn't pitch. They were 24-5 when he did. The Angels have been trending worse than those numbers lately. They are 6-26 in the last 32 games Ohtani didn't pitch, and 6-0 when he did.

Arte should use his billions to clone Ohtani a few times. Then we can be 18-0 when an Ohtani pitches.

Watching Ohtani over the last year and a half has been incredible.  I really think Moreno has to throw every obstacle out of the equation to get this special player (along with Trout) into the World Series.

Baseball needs a World Series where Ohtani has an opportunity to do it both ways.  It has to happen.

Given where the Angels are right now, the only real way to go is for Moreno to have no budget at all and bring in three or four elite players.  $300 million?  He shouldn’t even blink.

It has to happen.  Moreno is not going to own this team in 5-10 years anyway.  Why wouldn’t he want to be the owner that did whatever it takes to get these two guys into a World Series.  It would make Moreno legendary himself, instead of the guy that meddled and was the cause of them not getting a ring.

Steinbrenner was mocked until he started collecting rings.  Now he is remembered as the guy that did what it takes to make sure pinstripes meant something.

Let’s go Arte.  You can be the guy in control and the guy that gets the credit.  Open up the wallet and let the GM build a legendary team.

Please.

This has nothing to do with the amount of money he has spent in the past.  Whether he spent too much or not enough in the past is entirely irrelevant to my point.

My point is about what needs to happen now given the current state of the organization with the goal being getting Ohtani/Trout into the World Series fast.

Look, ANY idea or plan to improve the team is reliant on somebody making some decent decisions.

My comments are about the path they should take.  If anybody in that organization is capable of executing any plan well remains to be seen.

Even the idea of purchasing some elite players runs into a little trouble because the starting pitching free agent class isn’t great this offseason.

If the Angels want to build a winner fast, they probably should have the balls to trade for Montas or Castillo (who they can control beyond this year) to accomplish some of what they need to accomplish for next year.

Then add Rodon (almost certainly will opt out) and Trea Turner in free agency.
