Ohtani gets super deal starting in 2 years....if its slightly backloaded, he gets rendon's money.... which sounds weird, but he'll only have 3 years left when Ohtani gets super money.

I’m getting to the point where I don’t really care if the team is awful with no farm and a bloated payroll 2025-2030 because of an all-out attempt to win now. 

The last ten years were like that and I survived. It’d be a nice change of pace even if not the brightest plan.

I like the idea of saving Marsh and Adell until at least the trade deadline.  1) their trade values, assuming their continued improvement, will increase by then, particularly with Adell.  2) To get an impact player at the deadline either to fill holes or just take a step towards playoff legitimacy, you'll need one of Marsh/Adell.  We don't know what the team's trade deadline needs will be now, as you can't predict injuries or unexpected underperformance, but there will undoubtedly be an area that requires a significant move in order to finish a playoff race.  If the club is healthy and they don't need a type of player that commands a Marsh/Adell, then better to keep them both for when Upton is gone.

Another nice thing about their "big pitcher" acquisition is that it gives them a year to assess their young starters without committing long-term to an expensive free agent. They've got a lot of young guys who could be solid or better starters in the upcoming years: Not only Ohtani, Sandoval, and Suarez, but Canning, Detmers, Rodriguez, and then Daniel, Bachman, and Bush. A year from now, they'll know a lot more and can decide if Syndergaard is worth keeping long-term.
