Francisco Lindor on the Block

Recommended Posts

Would love to see a trade involving Lindor and one of their pitchers like Plesac or McKenzie. Maybe something along the lines of:

Angels get: Lindor (+21mil), Plesac

Indians get: Adell, Suarez, JerJackson, (possibly additional prospects? I'm eye balling it here)

Rotation:

1. Plesac   2. Bundy  3. Heaney   4. Canning   5. Taj Walker (2yr/16mil)  6. Ohtani

Lineup:

1. Fletcher 2B   2. Lindor SS   3. Trout CF   4. Rendon 3B   5. Walsh 1B   6. Ohtani DH   7. Upton LF (Marsh when ready)   8. Ward RF   9. Stassi C

Pen:

Hand (2yr/14mil), Mayers, Barria, Pena, Buttrey, Middleton, Sandoval

I think this team wins the division. Ideally, we could extend Lindor as well.

I know it’s not a popular take but even if we did somehow land Lindor but did not re-sign him, a QO would still net us a pick, and in the context of other moves, it might but be the worst possible rental.

I think Adell will be a very good player still but I’m not nearly as excited about him. I don’t see an Ozuna/Trout/Soto/Bellinger guy, more like a Verdugo/Benintendi/Upton/Ozuna.

I like Marsh a lot. He might not have Adell’s ceiling, but I think he’s much likelier to be a very good player.

The Indians will wait (probably close to spring training) and try to get the best deal.

Without a GM or knowing their philosophy it's hard to project what direction the Angels are going. If the new GM wants to make a signature splash right away he could deal for Lindor, possibly  in some kind of package deal. Lindor obviously is a core player, and along with Trout and Rendon, brings elite performance and stability to the lineup. But one year would just be a tease. And a distraction.

Everything depends on Arte's intentions, which will be immediately known by whoever the new GM is. If it's still about big names and win now then the Angel's could be interested. But I think there are more playoff type contenders who will be active.

Adell and lower tier guys for Lindor and McKenzie? Maybe work a third team (Pittsburgh?) in and try to mirror the Betts deal?

You are addicted to trade porn.

The Dodgers made the Betts trade because they knew they could out bid everyone to keep him and they have a World Series caliber team.

The Angels are not in that position so Lindor would be one and gone along with our prospects. It's an imbalanced trade for the Angels right now.

$20 mill is a large chunk of change for a guy who was a league average hitter this year. I think Cleveland has a hard time moving him in this environment.

that really doesn't mean much at all over 60 games. he's young and experienced. it'd be really hard to believe that this 60 games was anything more than a short season sample size.

they're not trading plesac. i think there's barely any package that a team would realistically offer right now to get him.

Maybe. His wRC+ has dropped two years in a row. From 130 to 114 to 100. I'm skeptical that he is as good as his reputation at this point.

With the departure of Simmons, SS is an obvious position of need for the Angels.  Would Luis Rengifo or someone of that trade value tier be enough for one year of Lindor?

To get Betts Dodgers gave up Alex Verdugo and their number 3 prospect Jeter Downs. Plus Dodgers got David Price and his contract. To get Lindor I think it would take less because of covid. Taking on his contract at 21 mill without signing him to extension very risky.

I seriously don't understand how Lindor is even part of the off season discussion for the Angels.

Burn 20m in payroll on a 1yr rental that we're not gonna re-sign?  Maybe you get him for less prospect capital than you would normally expect but even still, it's a rental.  Cleveland is still gonna want one of Adell or Marsh regardless.

Or Cleveland eats a bit of the money and you pay full freight in prospects to get him.  Again, for a rental.

Anyone that thinks we would be able to retain Lindor after 2021 is delusional.

I guess the third option would be that we take on a guy like Carrasco and his 12m salary for 2021 and 2022 with the 3m buyout in 2023.  So his age 34-35 yo seasons.  And get both for almost nothing in trade if Clev is uber desperate to shed payroll.  Even still, then in 2022, Lindor is gone and Carrasco is owed 12m at the age of 35.

none of the above makes any sense to me and if that's the route they take then we are headed down a very unfortunate path for this franchise.
