Sounds like leverage when dealing with free agent asking prices. Clearly it’s not true and as chuck mentioned he states they need impact

That would work! I'm excited to see what our roster looks like in the next few weeks. 

One other thing to consider about not signing an Odorizzi, Walker or Paxton is, they could be looking for a 3-4 year deal and are asking for 10 million a season. There's also a lot of risk there in terms of health.

If the Angels believe Detmers and Rodriguez are super close and they liked what they saw from Barria and Canning, perhaps even Ohtani over the winter, then going in with Bundy, Quintana, Heaney and Cobb means they could spend money elsewhere improving the team like RP and RF.
