@Chuckster70 This post is political in nature and also not related to Coronavirus Cancelled events. Please move it to the appropriate forum.

Additional edit: Also, the comment section to that article brings up a number of significant issues with the analysis/thought process the author used - including his ignoring that the contagion factor is significantly greater than season flu.

the contagion factor will be significantly higher but ultimately the death rate isnt going to warrant the hysteria and long term damage the nation is about to suffer.

Still unsure whether the next show I was supposed to start finishing next week is now canceled. I'm not sure how we can move media back and forth without putting people inside the facility. I have a home system but without the actual show media I can't do squat.

Newsom nuked us.

President Trump announced in a press conference Thursday that chloroquine phosphate -- a substance found in drugs used to treat malaria and severe arthritis -- was cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to test as a treatment for the coronavirus.

That same substance, outside its pharmaceutical form, is used as an additive in aquariums to kill microscopic organisms that might harm fish and other aquatic animals. And, the prices for chloroquine phosphate have surged online in late February and early March, according to a study published Thursday, sparking fears that people may be ingesting the fish-tank additive in the hope it will combat COVID-19 illnesses.

The study, conducted by Storyful before Trump named the drug publicly Thursday, analyzed three identical listings from the same eBay seller, “thechemicalsource,” who opened bids on bottles of chloroquine phosphate used in aquariums for one week. Between February 25 and March 2, the price paid for a single 25-gram bottle of chloroquine phosphate skyrocketed from $9.99 to more than $500, the study said. The seller warned in each listing that the substance was not for human consumption.

Speaking at the same press conference with Trump, FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said chloroquine phosphate will be used in clinical trials to test its effectiveness in treating COVID-19 but also warned about providing the public with “false hope.”

"We will collect that data and make the absolute right decisions based upon those data about the safety and efficacy of the treatments,” Hahn said.

“What’s also important is not to provide false hope," he added. "We may have the right drug, but it might not be in the appropriate dosage form right now, and it might do more harm than good.”

Several countries reported in recent weeks that the drug was helpful in treating COVID-19 illnesses but there have been no conclusive pharmaceutical studies to back up the claims. The World Health Organization (WHO) has chloroquine phosphate listed as an essential medicine for its treatment of malaria but has not approved the drug for treating those infected by the coronavirus.

Police in North Carolina find stolen trailer full of toilet paper

Police on Wednesday pulled over a stolen tractor-trailer with about 18,000 pounds of commercial bathroom paper products inside.

With the American population fighting over a single precious roll of toilet paper amid the coronavirus outbreak, police in North Carolina uncovered nearly 18,000 pounds of commercial bathroom paper products inside a stolen tractor-trailer on Wednesday.

Police said they aren't releasing the name of the driver because the topic of toilet paper is “fairly sensitive right now.”

"After further investigation, it was determined the 53-foot Hyundai dry-van trailer was reported stolen locally and was being utilized to transport nearly 18,000 pounds of commercial bathroom paper products," the Guilford County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Jails across US begin to release inmates over coronavirus fears

At least four states in the U.S. have started to release inmates from their jails to protect vulnerable inmates as coronavirus infections have begun to appear from within.

New York City will be releasing "vulnerable" inmates who have underlying health conditions, including those who were arrested for minor crimes, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday.

His decision comes as an inmate at Rikers Island in the city tested positive for the virus and eight others are showing symptoms.

“This inmate was in a housing unit with other inmates, all have been checked for symptoms,” de Blasio said at a news conference. "Eight have been identified with symptoms and have been moved also to isolation within the communicable disease unit."

Disgraced media mogul Harvey Weinstein will be also be moved from Rikers to a maximum-security prison located just east of Buffalo and next to the Canada border.

Other prisons in New York, including Sing Sing -- located 30 miles north of Manhattan -- have seen inmates test positive for COVID-19, according to the BBC. An employee for the state's corrections department has died from the virus.

Other states to enact measures protecting inmates so far include California, Ohio, and Florida.

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., called for “low-risk” inmates in California federal prisons to be released from custody, according to a letter sent to Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Director Michael Carvajal on Thursday. Her decision comes after two prisoners in the state are in quarantine after coming in contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus.

“In the midst of this crisis, BOP should be taking reasonable steps to reduce the incarcerated population and guard against potential exposure to coronavirus,” Harris said. “At this time, BOP -- in coordination with the U.S. Department of Justice -- can and should request the release of low-risk individuals who are in pretrial detention because of money bail.”
