I'm so bored I might take a field trip to the grocery store

I'm so bored after being in bed all week with the flu, err coronavirus that I'm thinking of taking a field trip somewhere safe, warm and away from this mess.  Mexico is warm right now right?

I was joking of course, but I do agree that the cascading effects of various industries shutting down/limiting staff in the coming weeks could get pretty serious. Especially in certain industries where there isn’t a ton of remote work ability or skill redundancy among employees. Like I think of the company I work for... there are a couple of fairly low-level guys that if we lost would basically ruin our productive capability fairly quickly.

If we lose a significant number of essential staff - custody officers, medical personnel, warehouse personnel, maintenance and culinary staff in particular - we are in deep stuff.

schools up here are shut down until apr 24th at the earliest.  tomorrow is our last day of school until then, and i just received an email saying all 80 of us on staff are supposed to meet tomorrow morning in a small space with terrible ventilation.  logical!

i was going to vegas for spring break during the first week of april, but mgm just announced they're shutting down tuesday, and not taking reservations again until may 1.  wynn is closing until the first week of april.  all of the other resorts will most likely follow in short order.

if the masses could have been trusted to do what the CDC and WHO said, these draconian measures wouldn't have been necessary, but they couldn't, so here we are.  i know that there's plenty to be critical of regarding state and federal leadership, too.

see you all on the other side.
