Lufthansa will reduce flight schedule up to 90%

From CNN's Fred Pleitgen 

 

Lufthansa will be reducing flights by up to 90% due to the spread of coronavirus, it said in a statement.

It also announced Austrian Airlines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, will suspend all flight operations temporarily starting on Thursday. 

“Lufthansa Group airlines will further reduce their short- and long-haul schedule. The cancellations, which will be published as early as tomorrow, March 17th, will lead to a sharp decline in long-haul service especially in the Middle East, Africa and Central and South America. Overall, the Lufthansa Group's seating capacity on long-haul routes will be reduced by up to 90 per cent”, the statement said.

In regards to European flights, Lufthansa said:

“Within Europe the flight schedule will also be further reduced. Starting tomorrow [Tuesday], around 20 percent of the originally planned seating capacity will still be offered."

I have a friend that was leaving in April to spend 3 months in Portugal at a music school learning the Portuguese guitar.  Looks like that will be delayed.

So, drunkpost: This has just been a shitshow of the last ten days or so for me. My grandmother passed away last Sunday (the 8th). She was 93 and went peacefully at home. She was an awesome woman that I was quite close to. Mainly feel bad for my 95 year old grandfather. Looks like I’ll likely have to cancel my flight out for her funeral.

 

Then on that Tuesday I got word that one of my best friends died randomly in his sleep at 36. I lived with this guy and his brother all through college and stayed close over the years. Just a fucking stomach punch.

 

Last Friday was also the one year anniversary of my father’s passing too. Just like this random wall of death and shit has hit me lately, and now apparently the country is kinda shutting down. But fuck me if I’m not engineering the shit out of stuff at work.
