Kobe Bryant killed in helicopter crash

I have never been a Lakers fan, and I'm not huge on the NBA TBH. That said, I can appreciate the combination of talent and character that Kobe Bryant had. Steven A. Smith this morning talked about how much he matured over the years, and that he said that he was happy in his current life, when so many sports stars have no idea how to cope once the spotlight is no longer on them. He inspired a lot of young people to be their best, and that is an admirable legacy. I regret that we won't get to see what else that he might have done for others. I salute the Dallas Mavericks for retiring the number of a respected rival who never played for them, and the NBA teams who decided to take shot clock violations at the beginning of several games yesterday to pay tribute to 24.

i was reminded earlier today of when payne stewart (the golfer) died in 1999. he was headed to a tournament a couple of months after winning the u.s. open at pinehurst. they had an oxygen problem in their plane and everyone on board passed out. a military jet was scrambled to try and escort them to a landing or at least find out why they weren't answering their radio. they ended up crashing somewhere remote in the midwest. payne had a lot of golf left in him, and that death was big blow to a lot of people.

That was creepy because obviously everyone in the plane died while it was flying, but then it just kept flying on autopilot a couple thousand miles till it ran out of gas and crashed.

Im in the camp that I was never a Kobe guy, up until his last year. I always had the "Magic was better" attitude, more of an old school fan.

Once he was hanging it up, then after, I came around to the guy. "Wow, he was good". Such a gut punch.

Yeah my dad and Uncles are the same way. I think it's a generational thing, but Kobe was my generation's Magic--but I think Kobe was better.

Yeah, losing Payne Stewart was definitely tragic.

This is cool.

To honor the legacy of the great Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gigi, StubHub is donating 100% of the fees of tickets sold on StubHub for the January 28 Lakers vs Clippers game to the Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation.

Also, $38k to sit courtside, you could buy a brand new mid size SUV for that much money.

That matters to regular guys like me and you but not to the people who can afford to sit court side.  They aren't deciding between sitting court side and a new midsize SUV.

Yeah... I get that, was just pointing out the insanity of that price.
