Albert Pujols, C.J. Wilson deals enabled by TV revenue

With a combination of shrewd business sense and fantastic timing, Angels owner Arte Moreno parlayed an escape clause in his television contract into the billions that enabled his team to sign Pujols and C.J. Wilson on Thursday, for almost twice what Moreno paid to buy the team.

The Angels have agreed to a new deal with Fox Sports worth at least $3 billion and expected to cover 20 years, two parties familiar with the deal said Thursday.

Now, you guys want to quit flapping your gums about this?

This says that the agreement enabled Wilson and Pujols to be signed.  Earlier in the thread another nutswinger said that the Pujols signing was the impetus for the contract.  So which one is it??

So who got fired from FS West for entering that agreement?  Pujols (nor CJ Wilson ?) have moved the ratings needle.

Still struggling with that whole "reading comprehension" thing I see ...

This guy getting paid big bucks

“It’s sort of like the Mets versus the Yankees,” says Adam Swanson, a media analyst with SNL Kagan. “You have fans on both sides of the fence. [Pujols] is going to draw more viewers and draw higher ticket sales. So the opportunities are there.”

I’m pretty sure that at the time of the signing that all parties were counting on generating tons of postseason revenue to make this whole deal worth it.

Great point. He has a 162 average of 31/107 for the first 7 years of his contract. He has a 162 average 30/117 this year in the the 8th year of his contract.

M-Cab is nowhere nears those numbers (although pretty even in OPS).    The Tigers will enjoy paying him another $130 million for the next 4 1/5 seasons.

2-3  with a double and 2 rbi so far today

Awesome.  That should put him firmly a few percentage points better than a replacement player for the season.  ALBERT PUJOLS IS NOW PLAYING A FEW PERCENTAGE POINTS BETTER THAN A LEAGUE MINIMUM GUY THIS SEASON.  HUZZAH!!!

I read on the other thread he didn't run out a ball.  In his defense, it's hot in Texas.
