We're pretty fortunate his .672 OPS/80 OPS+ in 2017 wasn't the end of the road. For most veteran players, there's no coming back from that at age 37.

With the additional roster spot next year and the relative financial flexibility Eppler has built, I'm really not that concerned with how Pujols performs the final two years, and while it's a small slice of the greater pie, I'm still pretty impressed that with the decline, the aging, the injuries, Albert has consistently been a 25-30/90-100 RBI guy (at least on pace) every single season here.

Honestly, it blows my mind he hasn't DH'ed since May 12th with all the injuries he's had. And since then, he's sporting a very healthy .269/.326/.440/.766 slash in 304 PA. No complaints with a slash like that.

And he still plays a decent defense, although with less range.  He made some nice plays on some inaccurate throws to first base last night.

Yeah, the instincts are still there too. I've noticed when he's at 1B, the infielders just seem to play with a little more confidence it seems. There's a different vibe in their play. He influences a lot of little things that don't show up on Baseball Reference. Further proof is in his ability to still steal a base - amazed also that he has stolen 28 bases as an Angel.
