Cozart will probably have his last year of his contract eaten. Pena is out for 6-9 months. Maybe ready by the All Star break. I don't think any position players from outside the Org will be added to the 40 man roster this off season, except possibly a catcher.  Only Pitchers!

Pena and Cozart will still he added to the 40-man during the offseason, per the rulebook, even if injured, so that eats up two spots right away.

And we probably need to add a good 5-7 pitchers from outside the org anyways. The 40-man is tight, and I doubt Adell getting an extended look in March as opposed to a handful of at-bats one September will change much.

that's my feeling.  Adell doesn't need a look.  He's gonna be a star and maybe a superstar.

How do you guys figure Canning comps with May ?

You mean Dustin May?  That kid is awesome.  I've liked him ever since the Dodgers drafted him, or shortly thereafter.  They aren't really comparable.  Two completely different approaches to throwing a ball.

Ya I get that.  I guess I should have rephrased it.  I guess I’m sort of trying to get an idea about how their ceilings matchup and likelihood to get there.  I’m just not that familiar with May.

I suppose you could say similar velocity and command of their pitches. Probably equal chances they each reach their ceiling as well. I feel both will be mid rotation starters or better in 2021. That's about where the comparisons stop.

The nice thing about this thread is that every night there's something good.

Jackson wins the all star game mvp.
Aaron Hernandez 4ip, 0h, 0er, 3bb, 4k
Leon Rivas 2-5
Maitan 2-4
Chad Sykes - 2ip, 4k.  Rough go in Orem but so far in A+ he's gone 8.1 ip, 1h, 0er, 3bb, 14k.  10th rounder out of UNC greensboro.

Since taking a few days off, perhaps to finalize that new swing, Maitan has hit .257/.337/.446/.783 in his last 18 games/83 PA. Includes two doubles, four homers, six walks, and 21 strikeouts, and a respectable .306 BAbip. He's also returned to playing 3B almost exclusively of late.

A reminder, he's one of the youngest players in the league, younger even than Jordyn Adams.

may but was Eppler thinking about trading two 80 grades names for Stassi?

But really Stassi looks like  a hot mess behind the plate, and should not have been worth anything.

Too early to worry about Stassi....might not even see any results until next year. As of now, I'm pretty encouraged by the work of Reed, Wooten, and Sorrento. But results don't come overnight.

They rebooted Calhoun, La Stella and Goodwin are having the best years of their careers, Pujols is having as close to a resurrection as possible...I think these guys are doing good work, but they're not magicians. Might take a whole month or two for them to simply get enough data and info on Stassi before they're able to implement any new changes. They likely had some hand in the minors last year with Fletcher and Rengifo as well.

Jordyn Adams sounds like a pornstar.

Adell's up to .368 in AAA! Now my question is, do we pick Kole option? i persoanlly do not think he's worth 14 mil and he most likely won't get that in the market. i would decline and try to sign him to a cheaper contract.

Marsh''s line is at .282/.372/.407/.778. He'll be in AAA soon as well.

No.

And it sucks, because I love Calhoun. But we need pitching way too badly. Saving the 14 mill on him isnt going to land us an ace, but having it available to add to the rest sure as hell will help.

A 14 million dollar mid rotation guy would help us more than Calhoun going forward.

Good call. The current hitting coach "team" has really done some good work, which has been masked by the poor pitching.

Orem has the same issue that SLC has, high altitude messing with off speed pitches.     Is Sykes rated as a solid off speed pitches guy?
