Statement from Tim Mead on Mike Trout

I absolutely get it, and I understand why they released the statement regarding Trout. They had to, because the media took Manfred’s comments out of context. Fletcher asked the question, so he would know the context behind Manfred’s response.

How did his words get taken out of context? I really don’t understand this narrative

Ill add to the CJ Wilson quotes.

Without going too into it, Ive spent enough time around Trout to back what hes saying. Ive known him since his first call up, and have seen him going from a guy no one knows who he is to the face of the game, and hes still the same guy he was when he was first called up.

Ive never seen him be a dick to anyone. Fan, waiter, clubby, etc. He and a few of the other guys stood out that way compared to some of the others. Some are really just down to earth, regular guys. Hes one of them.

The part where hes kept his profile low is 'him'. He knows hes the baddest ballplayer on the planet, but keeps it to himself. All he wants to do is compete. Baseball, ping pong, madden, etc.

Ive mentioned before that he loves living out here. All the noise about how hes bailing east is very overblown. Thats not to say he wont...he by far and away wants to win more than anything else. This is where the angels will have to step up. Hes done his part...

But this silly drama might help. This stupid controversy will be 24/7 if he goes to a more high profile team.

I have grown to like Trout even more after this.  It's awesome to have a superstar who isn't a dick.  I hated the TOs and the Arods of the world.

That said, can Trout take an hour with a PR or speech pathologist, and get all the "uhs" out of his interview answers.

Or do you know how awesome it is for AW to have a Dick who isn’t a superstar?

It's interesting that the biggest "scandal" Mike Trout has ever dealt with is the fact that MLB wants him to "do more" to be more popular. The guy literally does his talking on the baseball field, is universally loved by fellow baseball players, Angel fans, fans of other teams, and is the official masturbation fantasy of Angelswin.com, Philliesfans.net, YankeeYankers.org, and pornhub's baseball section.

In my question was mention of the fact that Mike Trout isn’t interested in marketing himself. I asked if, given that and the fact the Angels haven’t been able to get him to playoffs more, if there is anything else MLB should or could do to make him more “famous.”

He answered by saying, as I interpreted it: It’s up to Trout. If he’s not interested in being marketed, we can’t do it without him. He’s a great guy but he doesn’t want to do that, which is his decision. If he changes his mind, we can help.

Which players have gone to MLB and asked for help being marketed?

Herein lies the problem, in my opinion. MLB should market its players without waiting for them to give the ok. I highly doubt Adam Silver's people are waiting around for NBA players to give their approval for their marketing strategies.

Manfred’s point was you can’t fully market a player who isn’t interested in cooperating.

Yes, I get that.  Manfred was probably trying to be honest and cool, and this result is social media expressing itself which  is to twist words the way you want them.  That sucks.  I bet Manfrad would easily fit in at Angels Winand I bet he’s huge Trout fan, how could you follow the sport and not be really.  We want honesty but it’s way to risky.   But don’t mess with Trout, I think we’re saying, even by accident.

He doesn't need Trout's approval and/or cooperation to market him. There are numerous ways to market a player effectively. Aaron Judge seems to be pushed in our faces at the drop of a hat. If he can't figure out how to market a generational player, he needs to clean house in the MLB marketing department.

The NFL has no problem propping up Tom Brady and I highly doubt he is cooperating with the commissioner's office on this (or any matter).
