Mike Trout is an exceptional ambassador for the game. Combined with his talent, his solid character creates a perfect role model for young people everywhere. Each year, Mike devotes a tremendous amount of his time and effort contributing to our Organization, and marketing Major League Baseball. He continually chooses to participate in the community, visiting hospitals, schools, and countless other charities. 

One of Mike’s traits that people admire most is his humility. His brand is built upon generously spending his time engaging with fans, both at home and on the road, while remaining a remarkable baseball player and teammate.

In addition, Mike spends quality time as a husband, son brother, uncle, and friend.  We applaud him for prioritizing his personal values over commercial self-promotion. That is rare in today’s society and stands out as much as his extraordinary talent.”

Manfred's comments were taken out of context. Check out Jeff Fletcher's clarification in the thread.

My comments are my own and I stand by them. 

MAN-phred said what he said... he may have said differently to Fletch, but not to the OG writer on the story.

I’m with you... he said something he shouldn’t have and then seemed to back peddle a little bit. He definitely should have handled it better.

I absolutely get it, and I understand why they released the statement regarding Trout. They had to, because the media took Manfred’s comments out of context. Fletcher asked the question, so he would know the context behind Manfred’s response.

Basically, Tim Mead just put up a giant middle finger in Manfred's face regarding Trout not marketing or branding himself.

And he's right.  There isn't a single superstar in baseball that spends more time signing autographs and interacting with kids than Mike Trout.
