  1. So many people are completely discounting Ohtani returning to the Angels. But he’s got a place in his heart for the team, the fans. Angels have a legit shot of him returning.
  2. That’s true. But I do think it’s something he considers.
  3. I wonder if Ohtani now takes the Qualifying offer and delays free agency for a year while he rehabs? That would be interesting.
  4. Rendon is the only one with a ring I believe. If anyone should take the reins of this team it should be him.
  5. Really enjoyed listening to this today. Loved hearing Victor’s voice and feedback on the team once again.
  6. This is why any transactions or lack thereof at this point will be very telling to me. Was it all hogwash or was he telling the truth about wanting to win? The Angels still need pitching one way or another.
  7. Perhaps the greatest challenge of going to a direct-to-consumer model is you have to compel consumers to actually subscribe - and keep them once they do. But this great unbundling of teams from local RSNs could be good for the consumer since it figures to force teams to put a better product on the field, court, and ice. Taken from the article Fletcher linked. The deterioration of cable networks and subsequently RSN’s could be good for sports in that it forces Owners to put a good product on the field. Having Ohtani would most definitely keep a core audience for some time. Also, winning would do that as well.
  8. “Baseball America placed him on their top 100 list for four straight years beginning in 2016, including placing Sheffield in the top 50 for the latter two years of that stretch.” Just shows that the top 100 Prospect list can be overrated.
  9. The next Angels transaction will be very interesting. Will it be telling? Not much left as far as free agents. But a trade would be definitely intriguing if it was a big one.
  10. Maybe a coincidence that Ohtani shows up in Tempe yesterday and today Arte pulls out of the sale. Maybe his “unfinished business” involves Ohtani.
  11. With Ohtani and Trout, the Angels worth couldn’t be greater. If Arte holds on to this team and let’s Ohtani walk, and doesn’t do even more to get Angels to the playoff, no way, no how he gets any where near $2B in 4-5 years.
  12. If Arte doesn’t win out on Ohtani, he’s going to deal with the fans repercussions. He HAS to sign Ohtani now.
  13. My thoughts…Trout is hungry to play in meaningful games and this is his opportunity. I can’t blame him at all. If playing in the WBC somehow leads to an injury that affects his season, I’d be disappointed but still wouldn’t blame him. He’s given a lot to the Angels, only to be let down season after season.
  14. Brett Phillips is exhibit #1. Signed primarily for his clubhouse persona.
  15. Wow, I hope he gets through this. Not sure what this means for his upcoming season.
  16. I would add the 10 years service contract like what Pujols got as well.
  17. Maybe so. But I can’t see Arte signing off on a $300M contract before the sell.
  18. I think a 3 yr deal $106 mil deal could get it done. I’m down.
  19. At this point, Correa would be better off with a 1 yr deal to prove he’s healthy I suppose.
  20. Yes possibly right. They both work for The Athletic. They can use same sources I suppose. Anyways, Blum gives names for same same positions Bowden refers to: SS, RP, SP. Blum also includes catching in his article. Does seem speculative as you mentioned. I think it’s same with Bowden.
  21. Bowden basically gives the Cliff notes from Blum’s article of which remaining free agents could interest the Angels. Cueto being the best fit. Blum says it’s not likely Angels go for 4th OF but gives a couple names.
  22. I gotta think that any new owner would want to keep Ohtani. Only makes sense to keep him.
