Trevor Bauer suggests Astros pitchers use foreign substance...

"Indians starter Trevor Bauer, a longtime advocate of pitch-tracking technology who trains with Boddy, jumped in with a series of thinking-face emojis of his own followed by a sarcastic comment suggesting a secret method to swiftly improving spin rate."

Interesting.  It is quite odd how the Astros pitchers have all had an uptick in their careers since joining the team.  Morton, Cole, Verlander, Peacock, etc have all either come out of nowhere or taken their career to another level out of nowhere.

Maybe. I do know for a fact a few years ago that the Astros were on the cutting edge of looking at spin rate as a measurement. As far as I'm aware, they were the first team to really take it seriously. Its possible that they have learned to coach it into players - if the entire pitching/coaching staff is judging you based on spin rate, and suggesting ways to improve it, you would expect the average pitcher to improve his spin rate.

I know that a lot of pitchers use foreign substances.  So even if the Astros pitchers do, doesn't mean it isn't fair game for anyone.  Bauer is just upset that MLB wouldn't let him use glue to seal his cut hand a couple years ago.  But he still has a point that MLB should be more clear about either enforcing the rules or allowing pine tar or whatever product to be used by pitchers.
