Angels are lowering the right field fence to 8ft

It looks like they put in a new scoreboard on the part of the wall that was between the 8 ft mark and the top of the wall, but they probably increased the padding and added a yellow line to differentiate home runs.

Here's what the old one looks like, so you can see what they probably did.

And an article about the numbers.

This doesn't make a lot of sense since almost every team has more left handed bats than us.  Is the "change in philosophy" to give our opponent an advantage?

Honestly, we have no idea how the change will effect the Angels. It will benefit players with middling power to RF or low launch angles. It may benefit RHH more because if a LHH got into the ball it was going out anyway but now a RHH who gets into a pitch and drives it the other way will get a HR instead of a double.

there are a few of the old time parks from the 70s that had a yellow line to indicate home runs. i never really cared for any of them.

i'm guessing this will be a temporary situation in anaheim for this year with construction changes to be made next winter. they'll have to add some kind of new, closer wall to make yellow line more than just paint on the wall in right.

the first two are from riverfront stadium in cincinnati and the third pic is from three rivers stadium in pittsburgh. IIRC they originally just had a line painted on the wall but after a few years, they added some construction so that there was more of an actual wall for the ball to go over. busch stadium in st. louis and veterans stadium in philly were also similarly constructed at the same time, and i think jack murphy in san diego and the kingdom in seattle had something similar to the painted line for a while. the multi-use stadiums were really pretty awful about this. one of the things that was nice when all of the new stadiums were being designed and built in the 80s and 90s was the return of nicer outfield areas instead of just a wall with a painted line.

the stadium sucks the way it's currently configured and we are stuck with it for a minimum of 12 more years. the right field seating is some of the worse value in mlb. ALL of right field is obstructed view...now you get the excitement of having a ball hit off the wall you can't see in the first place and now can stare at the lard ass ump to see if its an hr or double (or 9-3 put out if pujols is hitting).

The first row is pretty sweet in right field. But the rest I agree.

LOL @ Pujols ever hitting a ball to RF, let alone off the wall.
