It had to be from pony league and probably before he lived in Fullerton because our leagues didn't use real team names. In little league that had team names like the Red Giants and Rainers. In pony league it was the Mavericks or Mustangs.

I only knew him from when my brother played basketball, football and baseball with him in high school. He used to come over to the house sometimes . In his senior year he messed up his ankle Mantle style by tripping on a sprinkler head and sat out the last half of football season, he was the quarterback . I think he came back the last game to put them in the CIF championship but that was long ago and I was still in Jr high at the time.

#33 in the back ended up becoming one of Long Beach State's best players in the post-Tark era, Michael Wiley.   Wiley was the PCAA's (pre-BWC) all time leading scorer at the time when he was done playing at LB.

Far left is Clete Boyer, second from the left is Tony Kubek, third from the left is Bobby Richardson, and far right is Joe Pepitone.
