Darin Erstad Should Replace Scioscia

I can't think of a better person to become the new manager for the Angels. Darin Erstad was always the leader of the Angels during his playing days, and he's been fitting in nicely as the head coach of Nebraska's baseball team. What the Angels need is a young coach who can reinvigorate the team. Darin Erstad is not only knowledgable about baseball, he's also a man of integrity and values–someone who can really garner respect from his team. I think he's the change this team desperately needs.

 

I've been advocating this for some time, and a lot of you are completely against the idea, but guys like Erstad make good coaches. Look at how well the Cardinals have fared with Matheny–a young former player with leadership qualities similar to Erstad .

he was so intense as a player. i can't really see that translating well as a manager of a major league team.

I would absolutely love that. Erstad wouldnt let these dimwits lolly gag at bats and make stupid baserunning mistakes like Scioscia does.

Erstad is one of my favorite all-time Angels. That said, I imagine he'd be closer to the Scioscia mold of mangers than many of us here would be comfortable with.

I agree with that sentiment, SOTO, but would you be surprised if it happened (if Scioscia leaves)?  I wouldn't.
