I find this a bit disconcerting. Sure Gillaspie is not all that dissimilar from Freeze over the long run, but he has sucked this year. If we are looking at him as a one month stop gap you'd like to see a player who was playing a little better right now. Also, Kubitza is supposed to the the guy who takes over for Freeze next year, yet we can't trust him to handling the job better than a -1 WAR player over the next month?

Between Gillaspie, Kubitza and Cowart, they'll find something that works.

If this is the only move that happens this year. Sure, it means depth at 3B, and that can't be bad...but Gillaspie is not the answer to what ails this team.

Considering what the Angels gave up for Freese, getting a comparable player for essentially for free, is nothing to bash the team about.  Yes, last season is last season, but it does show what he's capable of which is a bit better then what Freese is currently capable of.

He has a -1.0 WAR this season. Terrible defensive 3B. Uhhh why?

 

Sounds like a Scioscia type of player. If he can shed about 50 points off his batting average, he will be a perfect fit.

Huh? He's leading AAA in number of doubles hit last I checked? The veteran presence BS was taken too far here. Unless there is some type of time served issue on Kubitza or the Angels are concerned about depth (and that could be actual depth or a planned trade) then not letting Kubitza play these next 3 weeks is really kind of dumb.

He's hitting .276/.347/.454 w/33 Doubles at AAA right now, do we seriously believe that he can't at least be in the same ballpark as Gillespie with his .237/.276/.364?

That trade was a deal of need for both clubs hoping each player would do better in a new environment. Also, Peter wouldn't have played Center here with Trout.
