It is a bit of a shame that baseball circumstances have meant there can be a fair bit of fan resentment towards Albert. There's a couple of things about him that have annoyed me but on the baseball side of things it's not his fault we decided to give him such a large contract and off the field there's enough things like this to show he's a very good guy.

What a great article. Why he's the real deal too is because Pujols did this on his own without the publicity. He didn't do it to create the story. He's a real sports hero.

Absolutely agree.  It is a shame this story is being overshadowed by another story, but it does not have to be that way.

 

Boycott all Hamilton threads.

Albert is a class guy and because of that I truly believe that as soon as he feels as though he isn't a very solid player anymore he will retire. That might be after we all realize he isn't very solid, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he retired with 2 or 3 years left on his contract.

Even after Pujols retires the personal service contract will be a good thing for the Southern Californa community. I watched a clinic he held taped on CBS in Orange County with little leaguers and giving them tips on playing baseball he's definitely a great ambassador for the Angels.

Yep, it would be great to find a way to just move his contract from the baseball side of things to "operations" side of things when his skills diminish too much. That way it doesn't count against the luxury tax, if we decide to cut him.
