Interview With Angels' Weekly Host Alex Curry

Angels’ Weekly on Fox Sports Network has always been a show fans have tuned into to get the latest scoop on their beloved Angels. The show has always had a pretty consistent format, usually including an interview or two, a series recap and perhaps a preview of the Halos’ upcoming opponent. This year is a bit different though, this year Angels Weekly is taking a different approach and that new approach starts with new host Alex Curry.

AngelsWin.com recently had the opportunity to talk with the new face of Angels’ baseball to find out a little more about her, her thoughts on this year’s team and her experiences thus far as host of Angels’ Weekly.



Waller: Alex, first of all, on behalf of AngelsWin.com I wanted to thank you very much for your time today. I know you are very busy and have a lot going on so you taking the time to speak with me is very much appreciated.

Curry: No problem at all Brian.

Waller: You've lived in California your entire life, did you follow sports closely growing up?

Curry: Oh yeah! My family is a huge sports family. We've followed all Southern California sports teams since I was little. I have three little sisters and we all played sports growing up. I used to play soccer all through high school and into college at San Diego State University, where we won the 2006 NCCA National Championship. My family loves sports.

Waller: You definitely have an impressive resume, in addition to working for E!, Fuel TV and Fox College Sports, you've also worked behind the scenes in production on events like the X-Games, the MTV Music Awards and the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards; do you prefer being in front of the camera in a host capacity more or being behind the scenes in production?

Curry: You know, I love all aspects of production, I love writing, producing & hosting. Working behind the scenes, gives you a full appreciating for all the hard work that goes into an event or show, and it’s so fun to see the final product all come together. But at the same time I feel at home when I’m on camera.

Waller: How did you come across working with Fox Sports West on Angels Weekly?

Curry: Well I had been working with Fox College Sports the previous summer, and I happened to meet with the right people at the right time, and I was the lucky candidate to get the role.

Waller: How does hosting Angels Weekly compare to the other hosting experiences you've had?

Curry: Angels Weekly is a true dream job. I love working with the players and everyone involved with the Angels organization. What’s amazingly different is that it’s real. Our goal is to give the fans an inside look and help them connect to the players. They are real, hardworking people, but they’re all normal guys who love what they do. Everyone has their funny personalities, and we get to showcase that and share it with you.

Waller: What is your favorite part about hosting Angels Weekly?

Curry: The family relationship that Fox Sports West has with the Angels organization. I love that we can pitch them an idea, and they are just as excited to be apart of it and help out. Meeting the players has been great. I don’t look at them as interviews, but instead “getting to know you” conversations, and I think that helps the viewer learn more about the players.

Waller: Living in Southern California for so long and following the local teams, what is your family's reaction to you hosting a weekly show covering the Angels?

Curry: My family is so supportive and loving. We all screamed and jumped around the house when I found out. We have always been a close family so working and living so close to them is great. 

Waller: What has been some of your favorite experiences working on Angels Weekly and being around the team so much?

Curry: Just getting to know the players and the coaches. There’s a strong, fun relationship with the team. From the beginning (back in spring training) you could tell the team was very close. I think Scioscia’s famous morning meetings really broke the ice and got everyone on the same page. I love that we get to do fun behind the scenes pieces, like visiting a players (Bourjos’) home or tagging along to a community event. Again, just offering a new perspective on the players is something that is a lot of fun.

Waller: Do you have a favorite interview that you've conducted?

Curry: You know, I don't. I've enjoyed speaking with everyone. The players are so positive and willing to talk, it has been a lot of fun.

Waller: Well Alex, I don't want to keep you much longer, I know you have a meeting you need to get to. Again, on behalf of AngelsWin.com I just wanted to thank you for your time. You definitely bring a fresh vibe to Angels Weekly and the show is a blast to watch.

But seriously though, she's not that bad. There are a lot worse female announcers out there. At least she tries to interview people.

erin andrews is obviously the poster girl for "looks over talent" but the one they have on sunday night football I like a lot and she's not a model and is like 50 years old.

In October 1997 I visited my grandfather in Newfoundland. We watched the World Series together, that year between the Marlins and the Indians. After the Marlins clinched, a female reporter (I don't recall who) walked up to Marlins' manager Jim Leyland and asked him during the celebration on the field about his future with the club and whether he would be returning the next season.
