I don't like the idea of trading anything of value for a reliever, there's too much variability from year to year. As far as I'm concerned there's only a few guys who qualify as proven shutdown guys such as Kimbrel and Mariano when he was pitching. Also I hate how the "closer" label instantly adds so much value. Had Joe Smith racked up 30 saves last year with all the same numbers his contract would be very different right now.

Alvarez has been ridiculous in AA this year. He could arguably out perform Street right now, and he is under control through at least 2020.

The real kicker is that Grilli and Thatcher are both FAs...  So, there will be a pressing need as soon as this offseason.

And with the salary increases to Trout, Pujols, Hamilton etc. next year I imagine they may not have much money to work with to either resign these guys or bring someone else in. Could turn out to bite them in the ass in a year or two.

And this is why I'm iffy about offering Dipoto an extension. I WANT to like him and he's made some good moves, but he does shit like this way too often for me to want to rush into a long term contract.
