Sad as hell. Anyone getting killed is sad, and its been a bad few weeks for coppers. But this one hits home.

Dude was on his last night of "ghost phase". Meaning his next shift would habe been his first official day on his own. Didnt even get a chance to drive his own car for one night.

This really sounds like murder. You need a specific keyfob to enter, the apartment obviously wasn't decorated the same so either the officer was grossly impaired or killed him on purpose.

sounds like this all happened in the hallway, not inside the apartment. that could be a factor. if she had seen or been physically inside the unit maybe she quickly realizes her mistake and backs away.

maybe a 14 hour shift in a high crime and high pressure neighborhood isn't a good idea, either.
