Validation… imaginably.

6) Angels
Closer: RHP Raisel Iglesias
Primary setup men: LHP Aaron Loup, Ryan Tepera, RHP Archie Bradley, RHP Mike Mayers

It’s still hard to be sold on the Angels’ rotation, but the bullpen looks solid. The Halos did what was necessary in re-signing Iglesias, who has had a sub-3.00 ERA in five of his six seasons as a reliever and struck out a career-best 37.7% of batters faced last year, but they also made some important external additions in the wake of the unfortunate loss of Chris Rodriguez to right shoulder surgery.

Veterans Loup, Bradley and Tepera were all signed as free agents. Loup allowed only six extra-base hits amid 218 batters faced last season. Tepera had a 1.01 WHIP and 31.9% strikeout rate over the last two seasons. Bradley has a 3.09 ERA and .234 average against since becoming a full-time reliever in 2017. So the Angels will have a good bullpen.

Imaginably.

Right now Im neutral.

Sounds like Ukraine is pushing back.

If Russia takes Kyiv, and Ukraine folds and the war ends, I imagine Syndegaard needs TJ, Ohtani gets hurt, and Trout is arrested.

If Ukraine pushes Russia back enough, and world war 3 gets closer and closer, im picturing Syndegaard and Ohtani neck and neck for cy young, trout and ohtani neck and neck for MVP, Rendon looking like a bargain, and Upton come back player of the year. Angels in first on September 1st.

And then the mushroom clouds on September 2cd.

Which will have more WAR?

I don't think anyone said spending on the BP was "bad", just that it didn't necessarily give you an advantage over not spending.

It's ultimately true, but the Angels have been cheap on the BP for years and it hasn't worked so they might as well change things up.

I have a vague recollection of a cautionary narrative to spending on the bullpen because of the performance volatility of relief pitchers.

I have zero issues with them spending on the Bully!

The problem that I have, is the lack of consistency that the entire 6 man rotation will hold up for the entire season at some point due to either extra days off needed or continued health/arm issues. I guess, you could skip a guy in a 6 man or push them back easier than a 5 man rotation. I just don't want the Bullpen to get worn down early due to it.

Already, Canning and CROD are out an extended amount of time. While Lorenzen's previous experience as a Starter hasn't been the best and has down right stunk overall. He has had 2 consecutive down years out of the pen also. I'm hopeful...
