Does anyone hit the ball as hard as he does? Every homerun is just a fucking 440 foot laser.

He's inhuman.

According to Statcast, where he really excels is in Barrels - which is hitting a ball with a 98 mph exit velocity or higher, and within a certain launch angle zone, depending upon speed (see chart below). He's 1st in the majors per PA with 15.1 (Tatis is second at 12.9) and 1st per Batted Ball Event (making contact) at 26.0 (Tatis is second at 21.4). Big margins.

His exit velocity, HR distance and hard hit % are all in the top 5 range.

Yes, five players match or better Shohei's average exit velocity of 93.8mph:

Judge - 95.8; Stanton - 95.6; Vlad Jr - 95.4; Donaldson - 94.2; Acuña Jr - 93.8.

But nobody matches his average hit distance - 212 feet.

His average HR distance is tied with Goldschmidt for 4th at 417 feet (Soler leads with 428 feet on a much smaller sample size of 11 HR's).

And he's the proud owner of the best exit velo on a hit this season at 119 MPH.

This video (July 26, 2012 at Iwate Prefectural Ball Park) was the final game of Iwate Prefectural Tournament, the winning team could participate in the national tournament of high school baseball. It was when Ohtani-san was in the 3rd (last) year of high school.

In the summer of his 2nd year, he had a left hip epiphyseal injury. Almost half a year, he could hardly practice pitching techniques, and at the direction of the baseball manager, he gave priority to eating a lot and getting enough sleep.

“As a result, his body became bigger than I expected. Without that injury, I think he could have been a pitcher with a stable pitching form and a win in the game. Instead, it also contributed to the dramatic growth of his body,” said the high school baseball manager at the time.

WAR update.

Shohei leads all baseball in WAR by a clear margin and is pulling away from the pack by both measures:

6.6 bWAR (Wheeler 2nd with 5.2) - on pace for 10.8 bWAR for the season.

6.1 fWAR (DeGrom 2nd with 5.4) - on pace for 10.0 fWAR for the season.

The man is simply incredible. Go Shohei!
