It has been a habit since the Little League era that Ohtani-san breathes to his hand before pitching.

Lucky charm on the glove

In 2015 (NPB era), a swallowtail butterfly (Papilio) was flying around Ohtani-san during the warm‐up before the game.
On that day, he threw a shutout.
As a lucky charm, he engraved a swallowtail butterfly on the back style of the glove.

This year (2021), the web of the glove is engraved with Phoenix, which is a symbol of resurrection.

Saw on fhe broadcast last night, in his past 4 starts, he only has 1 walk.

Thats huge. That was the issue with Pitcher Ohtani early on.

His pitching (so far) is overshadowed by his bat. I think many are missing how good of a pitcher he has become

The Yankees inning, and a start against Texas back in May or so were his two bad ones. Every other one hes been dominant as hell

ERA discounting the NY inning is around a sick 2.20.

Yeah I can't remember what was exactly said last night on the broadcast but they said something to the effect of you took that outing against the Yankees out his ERA would be sub 2's and he'd be in the conversation for AL CY Young.

Was wondering about that the other day.

Even as an Angels fan, Ive pretty much underrated his pitching this year.  Im not sure where he rates among the AL best pitchers this year, but id say hes gotta be in the top 20 or so?
