Family issues made it so I couldn't turn the game on until the top of the eighth. I read through most of this thread. At least the game is close considering what happened with Ohtani.

I don't know, maybe we just saw it differently. Ohtani looked bad from the get go. None of his pitches had the bite I remember. He was afraid of throwing his fastball, he never attempted his splitter. He was 10MPH down from his top velo in '18. He never found the middle of the plate and with zero command there wasn't anything for hitters to sit on, so I'm not surprised he didn't give up a homer (he probably would've eventually). 

He looked as bad as he possibly could look, and the reason Im concerned is because he looked worse than 'first day of spring training' bad. He is clearly a project at this point and it's hard to have reasonable expectations for his next turn in the rotation.

I thought he threw a couple of splitters.  I guess I just had no expectations and you know, it is what it is.  I’m not saying he looked good.  Obviously it was bad ! I’m just saying I’m not ready to freak out about him yet.  Like I said, I’ve read that his velocity is fine.  So I expect that it will be fine.  I thought his breaking stuff was fine.  To me it was primarily lack of command.  Hopefully we see better soon.
