In this case, the president is right.  We have a drug that is recommended by China and South Korea to help combat the main symptom of Coronavirus that is causing death.  You know, two countries that have had huge outbreaks and have successfully reduced the number of fatalities.

But we can't use it because the FDA wont approve it.

So let's continue to chicken little, ruin the economy, put thousands out of jobs, and continue to spread fear.

For instance, if this Malaria drug, like a few other drugs are effective in combating Coronavirus.  In the US, they would not be able to use those drugs, because they are not FDA approved to fight Cornavirus.  They would need to test, write papers on, suck each others dicks, for a few months to over a year before they approve it safe for the public.  

I dunno about this. I've heard that it's being used on a patient in a local hospital around here.

Again, this isn't true.

Have China and South Korea used it? Yes. Have they proclaimed it the solution? No. It certainly looks like it has the potential to have promise in conjunction with other drugs.

For the FDA, or any other health agency, to approve it, it does need to be studied and have clinical trials. You can't just try it on a few dozen people and declare it a success. These test should be accelerated absolutely (and they are...and not just in the US), and if a doctor working with a patient feels that it would be helpful, by all means, prescribe it off label. There is nothing stopping doctors from prescribing it right now.

But it is simply wrong to say the FDA has tested it and is upholding approval...or that it has been proven to be an effective treatment.
