Breaking: Arenado signs extension with Rockies 8/$255+

Was really hoping Angels would get a chance to get him next year. But glad to see him stay a Rockie. 

 

I think this is the barometer for a Trout extension, not Harper or Machado.

Good, we need as many superstars as possible signing for around $30 per to hopefully set a reasonable number for Trout.

A Trout-Arenado-Ohtani core would have been nice to dream about but glad he is staying in Colorado.  Agree that this could be a Trout contract road map...

Ignoring the ridiculous comparison, the Angels haven’t had a real 3B since Callaspo.

You're right it is a ridiculous comparison, Callaspo was way better.

No.  Just...no.  You're not looking at it correctly.  The figures you're quoting for Arenado aren't OPS+.  They're for RELATIVE OPS+, meaning within that players OPS, how much of it comes from home vs. road.  The ABSOLUTE road OPS for Arenado (.787) is still way better than Callaspo (.685).

I like it. While I would have loved to have him.come here someday, its good to see big name / star players staying away from the usual suspect teams.

There are plenty of people here who are convinced that Trout won't sign an extension because he wants to play for a winning team on the East Coast. This is based on nothing but speculation.

I'd think that the same would apply to Arenado. He's not Trout, but he would have had many suitors (including the Dodgers, a winning team in the region where he's from) had he waited a year and tested free agency.

Im not sure I entirely like this deal from the Rockies perspective. A big 8 year deal with the opt out after year 3 gives Arrenado a ton of security and an option to walk early on if he keeps this up for a few more years.
