Kasich should just change parties. There's not much difference between him and the Dems.

I mean, there’s been basically no difference between centrist Dems and Republicans for a while now.  But ya, there’s definitley been a shift among similar republicans towards the Democratic Party.

We were talking about it early in this thread I think.  There’s a battle going on between these people and the progressives for control of the party.

^Don't bet on it, though. In this current context, if you got a boner in high school Chemistry 30 years ago you're now a sexual predator. If you called your friends "gay" when you were a teenager, you're a homophobe. If you believe that people should be treated as individuals rather than in intersectional categories, you're racist/sexist/whateverist.

exactly, and why i think there should be a statute of limitations of stupid things we all did in our teens.

we're not the same people today that we were back then. hopefully we've all grown.

Hopefully the dems can put forth a legitimate candidate who appeals to moderates and middle America.  That said I wouldn't be surprised if the party screwed itself over during the primaries by dragging it out until the bitter end and they end up with supporters of one candidate not wanting to support the winner like 2016.

i keep waiting for this, but they seem determined to push even further left and learned nothing from 2016.

Right now if they took a centrist position against Trump it would look leftist.

which is a pretty good indication how far left the left has actually gone.  At this point they are in danger of circumnavigation and coming back around to Trump, lol

whites painting their faces black didn't become absolutely insulting to African-Americans just 35 years ago. it's demeaning now, it was demeaning 35 years and it was demeaning 100 years ago.

Which "left" are you talking about? Hillary and Obama were both rather centrists. Bernie is left, but not as radical as Fox News would have it - unless you consider Scandinavia to be "far left" (which it isn't).

There's a myth that the Democrats are far left when in reality the party moved to the center, even center-right, when Bill Clinton took office. Mainstream Dems for the last 25-30 years are pretty centrist.

if you consider whats going on now centrist, we have very different definitions.  I dont think the age of identity politics is anything i would consider centrist personally.

What do you mean by "what's going on?" Identity politics is just one aspect of the political discssion and isn't synonymous with the left. In other words, not everyone on the left is a SJW (myself included), just as not everyone on the right is a religious fundamentalist.

On the Political Compass X-Y axis, identity politics isn't as much a matter of left-right as it is pro (social) authoritarianism and anti libertarianism. You can be a left-libertarian (again, like myself). Identity politics is more left-authoritarian (we must all believe the same thing, in our neo-socialist utopia); it is the left counterpart to right-authoritarianism, which usually equates with the religious right (we must all follow the same religious tenets).
