Angels sign Cody Allen

Free-agent reliever Cody Allen in discussions with #Angels on a one-year contract, sources tell The Athletic. Agreement believed to be in place, pending physical. Allen was looking for team that would give him opportunity to close.

Looks like his main issue last year was he gave up way more walks then previously in his career.  BA against also up a tick.  But still only .231. I think he’s probably good get.  Certainly cheaper then Ottavino.

His velocity dipped a bit this past year, K rate declined, BB rate increased, and obviously the ERA ballooned. That said, he's got a long track record of success, has been a good closer for a number of years, and more importantly, it's another 1yr deal. If he bombs whatever....you just move on without any money tied up into future seasons

however, 2mph off his fastball the last 3 years.

His 2018 wa so pretty gruesome. Had the Blake Parker HR trend too. 

Still, relievers, volatility, etc. so can’t really be too upset. I’d hope they still add another arm or two at least via ST invite before all is said and done.

I want to see a bunch of vets kick ass in ST and beat the young guns for Opening Day roster spots. I think that’s the best pen option we can hope for.

he had a 2.81 era in the second half of 2017 in 32ip with 43k and 23h.

Swinging strike % down from 14.9 to 12.7. Still pretty good. If he can regain his command, I can see him having a solid rebound year.
