I love this thread. Doc is one of the nicest most knowledgeable fans on here, and I can verify he drives a fast car, or at least he used to the last time we went to a game together. And he is a real Doctor.

I think Dipoto is just addicted to trading.  You watch, he is going to collect all these prospects keep them for 19, and in the off season trade them all away.  its a new action in his way of doing things.

You must respect a GM who blows up the roster to begin a rebuild taking his organization from having the worst farm to just ahead of the worst farm. And, reducing the major league payroll by 20 million. Spotrac has the Angels will a lower payroll (26 mill less) than the Mariners in 2021 based on current commitments. Dipoto is no longer just a noun, it is also a verb.

I have not realized how great a job Eppler is doing.

Guess we didn't end up just above the worst farm. We are also 29 mil less in 2021 and 27 mil less in 2022.

You can see Jerry's plan sorta working .... it's up to the prospects to pan out ... and he has to make good FA signings / trades.

Problem for both of us is that the Astros will still be Facking good for the next however long.

Dipoto sold off the majority of his competitive roster to acquire prospects, the majority of which are either far from sure things, or have since imploded.  The thing about Dipoto that Angels fans are acutely aware of that FanGraphs isn't, is rooted in his complete inability to scout.  They can rank the Mariners however they wish, it won't change the fact that you're looking at a garbage system because the designer of the system is in fact, garbage.  The best prospect the Mariners have, is one that was sent from the only GM in the industry that's worse than Dipoto, BVW.
