I believe this is his last option year.  He's pretty much done as a Halo I think.  I could see him being traded for cash/ptbnl in the off season.  I do think someone will pick him up off of waivers should he get DFA'd.  I do think he could outperform the LVB/Marte platoon if given enough at bats.  He's still a very good defender with lots of positional flex.  If cliff pennington can keep getting shots then so can Cowart.

This is a real shame, the guy is terrific defensively.  He's probably on overload with all the advice he's gotten over the years.  It would be very interesting to try him as a relief pitcher, but I think someone in another organization will still try to salvage his bat, and if they do they may get a real bargain.

If he could actually pitch out of the pen he would have tremendous value. His defensive ability would provide so much roster flexibility. He's the ultimate Waxahachie swap player. He can come in face a righty, you can bring in a lefty specialist and put him at any infield position for an out or two and then bring him back to face a hitter. In the National League he would have the added value of being a pretty decent hitting pitcher. It wouldn't be a bad idea to at least try going back to pitching.

Bullpen pitcher and emergency defensive replacement. Problem is in all likelihood he will be DFAed next season as he is out of options. There is a real possibility no one will claim him though, and he could try his hand at pitching then.
