This is a much better direction than Darvish  ... doesn’t necessarily have to be CC

I think this is great news. For the forum, at least. Gives us something to laugh about.

This feels like a dipoto move. Makes me wonder if were just baiting him into signing sabathis to feel like hes getting us back for ohtani.

I dunno, I mean his ERA was 3.19 away from the Yankee Stadium (being a pitcher in that overpriced monument must suck).

Perhaps Sabathia is better than we think?

Sabathia's away FIP was 4.43. 

He gives up a lot of HRs even on the road.

I think he'd be a great addition. Should give ya 160-200 innings of 3.75-4.00 ERA ball and frees up a lefty for a trade.

I think it falls into "hes better than we think, but still not really a good move" territory.

It all depends on what other moves were looking to make. Have to assume one of our pitchers is getting moved for a 2B.

That was what I was thinking.  He is not the dominant CC but with a short contract, he would so much better than most of  the other back of the rotation pitchers being considered.  I can Skaggs being jettisoned before Heaney.

This would be a solid move.  We aren't signing him to be our ace.  We need a LH starter who can give us innings and serve as a mid-rotation starter.  He'd fit the bill for sure.  As long as we can secure him on a one year deal, or a one-year deal with a 2nd that vests based on reaching an IP milestone, then I'm fine with that.

I disagree. If he's cheap, then the move is just fine. Even if he gives us 200 IP and a 4.00 ERA at the back end, I'd take that over what we have now. IMO it all depends on how much mula the man wants.

Assuming the Halos go to a 6-man rotation(which Eppler heavily implied), Sabathia can slot into the rotation as that steady vet guy among a group of young and uncertain arms. Sure as hell beats the last vet guy they had(Nolasco)

He's a stone cold lock to turn into Nolasco 2.0 if we sign him. Old, fat, and awful the previous 4 years before of course putting together a great year just in time to get one last contract. Red flags galore.
